Wink AC on Omni - Is it possible ?

Based on my knowledge, I've known that AC can't be installed in Omni because of the lack of a bonnet to accomodate the AC parts and due to the large size which may need a dual AC which Omni can't sustain itself.

But a car AC mechanic told me that he has filled AC's on Omnis. Is this true ?

Do any T-BHPians know of any Omni with an AC ?

And if that is possible, what is the cost involved ?

It is very possible to fit an AC on the omni. You can even fit a Unicla blower, which is what I would reccomend as the space to be cooled is quite a bit! However be warned that the blower could affect the hand brake lever once the play of the lever increases. It could also limit the width of your knee space. i did it in my omni in 1987!

Back in 1986, we bought our first Omni a red one with an AIR CONDITIONER. An a/c can easily be fit on an Omni but the downside is it will sap the power of that already small engine.

Should be anything close to 25k. I think that it would do much better on the mpfi van though.

Yeah, nothing more than 25k including the installation, labour, etc.

Find an experienced mech or go to the MASS. Demand to see a vehicle done by them already.

Mithun, I have seen many omnis with ACs infact the UPS Courier Omnis all have AC in them and they zip around with ease even with the AC on, but mind you these are all new ones.It depends on how old your van is and see to it that you get it done from someone who knows his job otherwise it maybe a pain later on..

Cheers Ed..

My neighbour in my hometown has a red Omni whihc has factory fitted Ac & I belive the model is somewhere around 1993. So old one should not be a problem only that get it done from a well qualified person :-)

Q. Is there an air conditioner in the Omni? Can I get it retrofitted?
A. We do not offer an A.C on the Omni. We do not recommend any A.C. for retro-fitment, either, for safety reasons.

Thumbs up Possible

It is definately possible to put an A/C in an Omni, we had it in our Omni about 10+ years ago, think we used an Ambi's a/c system then but it wasn't that great.

My uncle has an A/C in his old Omni and its super, it chills like crazy and you need to keep turning it off on your own. Its a real fuel guzzler though. Its a power king blower and rest I don't know. Done a lot of outstation trips in this car before and it worked fine.

Ankitahuja is right on all the counts and i second the point on the FE part... You justr need to be ready to notice a real change in FE as compared to in other cars

You could look at roof-mounted AC compressors - like the ones found on Volvo buses.
