Depends on the year of manufacture. If yours was manufactured prior to 2002, i would expect it that way. But the engine showing up as 1.2 is quite odd. When i use the FIatECUScan software, it does complain of the ISO code for the ECU not being recognized, but it still does default to the 1.6 engine. Maybe you should connect a Windows laptop just to make sure what you have in there.

Yeah.. Will do. Mine is a 2002 manufactured. Infact all s10's were 2002. Let me try again from a different device.

Correct, the S10 was manufactured in 2002, but the ECUs in the S10 are not exclusive or different. They are identical to the ECU of the GTX that was available in 2001, so an ECU carried forward should be OK.

Its a little over 87000 on the odo and the S10 is now in Chennai. Will be my primary car for a while until I decide on an upgrade to the Palio MJD. Did a drive from Coimbatore to Ooty and then from Ooty to Chennai.

Wonderful drive it was involving all sorts of conditions. Finally got the rear seats also done at Koyas. I was initially planning to make it full black, but Koyas rather insisted me to allow them do the rear seat in same design as the sparco's in the front. At first I was very skeptical, but the end result was brilliant. They proved who the boss is when it comes to interiors

Few pictures on the door pads and rear seats done at Koyas!

S10 is now doing duty in Chennai and its a little over 87000 on the odo. Got the fluids changed over the weekend.

Changed engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter and gearbox oil. Engine oil was Mobil Super3000 and transmission oil used was Petronas Tutela.

Also got the wheels balanced and aligned at TyreDrome. Have done around 300 kms of in-city driving and the FE was a respectable 9.2kmpl.

363 has been doing some tireless city drives for almost two months now and is leaving quite an impression with the Chennai public.

It turns out to be an attention grabber everywhere and I literally feel pretty shy in the signals where there are numerous eyes on me

Haven't hit the highway since coming from Coimbatore in December. Fuel efficiency has been a consistent 9+ irrespective of the driving style.

Tried very hard to drive in the 2 to 3k rpm mark to see how much max fe I can extract and the difference was a mere 0.1 post which I'm back to old ways

All said and done, using it as a daily drive is definitely burning my wallet and now I'm pretty desperate to get a replacement for my palio mjd. Fingers crossed!

Lovely ride you have there mate, and wish you many miles with this very special car! As to your driving in the 2-3k rpm range, I have also tried doing that in my Adventure, but like you pointed out, it makes no difference to the FE. Better to rev it hard!

Infact in my experience changing gears at 2000 rpm or below results in FE of 7.5 to 8 without ac. No matter what you do it does not improve if gears changed at low rpms

Some updates from the last 12+ months:

August 2015:

It was close to 92,000 on the Odo and 363 had been in sort of hibernation for a while.

Close to a month it was lying idle without even being started, first it was due to my hectic schedule and then it continued to be idle when I realized that I forgot to renew the insurance.

To avoid missing insurance further I've handed over all my car insurances with Link-k insurance brokers in Coimbatore who would now handle that job.

It was a painful wait to get the insurance in hand before taking it out for a drive and when I got it, the following week, 363 was doing daily duties and that's when I decided that it was time to get the long pending niggling issues resolved. To add to it a minor coolant leak also started from one of the hoses which was already overdue for a change.

So gave the car to Murugan (SMK) for the following works:
  • Minor rattles in Dashboard
  • FL suspension bush kit. Present one damaged due to improper fitment
  • Rear seat rattle
  • Permanent closure of AC re-circulation
  • Boot struts
  • Timing adjuster bearing noise
  • Coolant flush and leak check
  • Rear coil spring change from a donor car.

Also wanted to get the thermostat valve fixed, but seems it might need radiator change (car at present has a non oe custom radiator) and so would have to skip that.

About 10 days later, car was back with quite a lot of unforeseen jobs which inflated the bill.

In addition to the above works, it was found that the front shocks had to be replaced. Both had oil leaks and were weak. These were brand new excel-p that I had changed in 2013 and it was unfortunate to see it fail in just 2yrs and less than 10k kms of use. I'm still unsure whether it was manufacturing defect or whether excel-p would last only for 2 yrs!

Oil leak from the studs does hold a clue on maybe it was defective. But, I have once again gone in with another set of excel-p due to time and money constraints. Just hope this set would last longer. Now I would be even more watchful on fellow fiat'ians who have also fixed the excel-p.

Issues and resolutions:
  • Minor rattles in Dashboard - components re-moved and refitted and rattles gone now.
  • FL suspension bush kit - new bush kit installed with the new studs
  • Rear seat rattle - adjusted and fixed. No more rattles
  • Permanent closure of AC recirculation - tied up with a metal string and closed permanently
  • Boot struts - fixed new ones
  • Timing adjuster bearing noise - actually the bearing was fine. The noise was from the belt which was slightly loose.
  • Coolant flush and leak check - radiator flushed and bottom hose change with new coolant.
  • Rear coil spring change from donor car - spring from donor car fixed and ride height is now increased and in line with OE and now the exhaust does not scrape with the body over speed humps.

The expense details:
  1. Front Shocks pair - Rs. 4100/-
  2. Pair of Boot kit for front shocks - Rs. 1200/-
  3. Rear coil spring pair (used) - Rs. 1000 with labour
  4. Radiator bottom hose - Rs. 450
  5. Boot struts - Rs. 1250
  6. Coolant - Rs. 350
  7. Labour for hose change, radiator flush, Timing belt correction & suspension change Rs. 2500

October 2015

363 has crossed the 92k mark on the Odo. Had a minor glitch in the exhaust with leak and the packing was changed.

April 2016

The Odo had crossed the 95k mark. Got the fuel tank and pump replaced. Murugan helped to source used ones from Pudhupet. Few months back the tank developed minor hairline cracks and had used temp fix of m-seal to arrest the same. Then was in the hunt for a tank with a proper working pump (read working float ) and finally after a couple of lost attempts got one in fairly good condition.

Now the fuel gauge finally works

Total damage for Tank+Pump+Labor Rs.3500.

363 is now back to Coimbatore. Drove down on June 3rd.

The Odo now stands a little over 96,500. After a lot of deliberation got the alloys changed.

As mentioned in previous posts all 4 wheels have bends. Off late the impact of the wheel bends increased and hence changed them.

Was contemplating various options from getting used or on buying from kava and so on.

Finally right in time came the offer from FIAT for the graphite grey gp alloys and ordered them right away at Marvel FIAT in erode.

The wheels arrived within 4 days and picked them up from erode during one of my weekend home runs with Dhans.

Then came the dilemma of tyres. Right from sizes to brands and finally went in for 195/55/R15 alnac4g primarily due to budget constraints.

Just wondering, how did you restore the Sachin Tendulkar signature after getting the car painted?

It's a little over 96,900 on the odo now. Got the oil, oil filter and spark plugs changed when the odo stood at 96,811. Got the job done at Marvel Erode. Extremely happy with the workmanship. Plonked in the NGK Iridium plugs which I got from Dhans. Car runs smooth as always. Whatever little mis-firing was present so long has now vanished.

Unfortunately, Marvel did not have the Selena K in stock, but they had the Petronas Syntium 5w40 and went in for the same.

Cooling off for the works to begin. It was a 100kms one-way drive from home to Marvel.

Driving through Perundurai during meal time and not visiting Lakshmi Vilas? Well that is a crime which I do not want to commit
It was 12 noon when I got back to Perundurai after works and headed straight to Lakshmi Vilas. This place is very famous for the Kongu Parota's. Never had Biriyani here before and hence tried it and they did not disappoint me. The Mutton Kheema too was lip-smacking. Sorry to kindle your taste buds here, but it is a must visit place for foodies! (Vegans, please excuse!)
