Default V-Kit: A proposed device that uses cars & bikes to power homes

A Coimbatore-based company has developed a power generating & storing kit which generates electricity from vehicles (including two wheelers, cars, buses, trucks and tractors) to power homes.

"If we put a kit in two wheelers that run 40 Km per day, we can produce electricity to illuminate an average household for nearly four hours, in case we use the LED lamps developed by us. If the kit is fitted in a car that's running more than 50 kms per day, it will be enough to run the lights and fan in an average household (except fridge and motor pumps)” says Mr Vasudevan Tachoth, founder of the V-Kit.

Apparently, when the kit is being charged, no noticeable increase in fuel consumption has been observed.

”Power can be converted and stored into rechargeable batteries by using the V-KIT, and then utilised for domestic consumption. There are so many remote villages where electricity has yet to be reached; the V-Kit could be a blessing for them.” says Vasudevan.

The production cost of a kit used in motorcycles is Rs. 1,000 and for cars / trucks, it is Rs. 15,000. As of now, only a basic prototype has been developed. It needs more research and development by field experts.

He's hopeful of the Government (or any big private institution) to come forward and assist him in research, as subsidy or grant. He is ready to share the technology for research.

This is revolutionary. Let alone villages, most Indian cities are suffering from power shortage problems. If a captive power generation kit like the V-Kit takes off, it would be a boon to everyone. Basically the same principle as a thermal power plant - generating electricity from fossil fuels - but on a micro scale.

How does the battery get charged? I mean where is it connected to get charging power?

Doesn't mention, how long will it power for home (for say 2 lights 2 fans) when charged by car ?

How will it be used? I mean the battery is in the boot, so it needs to be taken out daily to use it, else the boot needs to be kept opened for it to be used.

Also, what do they mean by LEDs developed by them? Is the LED developed by them any different than the LEDs in the market?

The product helps plug in a gap in the rural market for Electricity requirement, but not everyone can use it. Some people with vehicles and such running can use it though.

Ranchhordas Shyamaldas Chanchad?

What I see here looks more like an extend battery charger inside a car.

Not sure of the workings of this device. But it will make sense if the equipment can transfer the charge to an inverter battery in the garage/parking. So you dont have to hold up the car.

Concept is similar to solar home lighting solutions. The smart inverter decides to supply power from mains or the battery. When the battery has the minimum required charge, it will use the battery for home lighting. When the battery charge goes low, it will switch to main supply.

That way it can reduce load on the grid and the electricity bill as well.
