There are car-chargers available for Laptops. Unbranded car chargers are dangerous for the Laptops.
So, I would suggest getting good brands.

there are lots of them... but dont go for a cheap ones from ebay..get a branded one with a decent fuse..
also make sure it has an in-built fan/cooling system, coz they will get pretty hot lying on the floor of the car..
go for brands like Cobra -they got a decent reputation with radar detectors and other car gadgets , pretty good.
I've been using one for past 2 years..

I recently brought one for about Rs 1.2 K from Hyundai A.S.S , comes with 6 month warranty and yes it has both a fuse and a Fan for cooling itself has been using it with my laptop and also my mobile and handycam charger. I have the 150 W version, but had i know about the existence of the 300W version i would have jumped at it :-).

But then again you have to check the fuse rating of he Car Ciggy Plug before you start attaching things on to it , or it might just blow you fuse .

you can find details of the product at AC DC Adapters Manufacturer,Switching Adapter Manufacturers,AC DC Adapters India,AC DC Switching Adapter,India

@yuv, did you buy it from India or abroad? If from abroad, did you buy online? Could you say how much you bought it for? I was also looking to get a good quality power inverter.

The ones in hellstar's links also look to be way better than the typical ebay-type ones.

I have used and blown 9 inverters so far, all different brands and made in china and inda, all of them rated over 150W and with cooling fans....

Now i use an APC inverter secifically made for laptops. This has been the most reliablle and robust system so far for me. Retails for around 2.9k.

I use inverters (250 W) in my car that can be used to charge laptops, handycams and mobiles. For my Garmin GPS, I have a special adaptor supplied by Gramin (as an accessory). I bought the inverters in Bangkok, teh first one is over 2 years old, once there was burnout (thanks to an overload, my fault, tried to run a car vacuum cleaner off it!), but taht was locally repaired. I have tried finding teh inverters in India (Bombay, Lamingyon Road) but did not succeed. The inverter costs me less than Rs 1,500 equivalent in Bangkok.

After the adapter, I have no problems with charging any devices on the move. Particularly useful when I go on my long driving holidays.

Default Power invertors

Hi,

I came across this product called as "Power Invertor". HomeShop18 .

Advantages of this device could be,
1. Can charge my laptop!
2. Can use my existing mobile charger.
3. Can use my existing camera battery charger.
4. Can use my existing charger for PMP,ipod!

My worries:-
1. How will it impact my car's batteries?(Lets assume that I use it just to charge various batteries, thus power consumption is not more than 50W and I use it while driving only.)
2. Is the cost of the product justified?
3. Any adverse impact on the AC devices?
4. Woudl you guys recommend buying this adapter?

Regards,

I have this product lying unused in my car now.. Lemme know if you are interested via PM.

Reason for selling: I don't have a cigarette lighter in the car now. And I have a CarPC installed

I haven't really used it to charge the laptop. I have charged my phone and GPS off it without any problem.

You need to check how much power does your laptop draw. shouldn't be a problem if around 100W. Remember that your laptop/mobile phones themselves are DC powered devices. So in a way, you are performing a unnecessary and lossy conversion to AC.

More details about this product:
1. It makes a screeching sound when powered up - Just an indication that its powering up.
2. It has a blue LED which I found irritating while driving.
3. It doesn't exactly snug fit on the Baleno cup holder.
4. Quality including finish is very good - it has all kinds of protection built in (Overload, overheat, short circuit, reverse connection and under voltage protection).
5. Built in USB charger port is very useful.

Default Car Inverters

Fellow BHP-ians!

Over a period of time, between me and my wife, we have accumulated an assortment of phones all requiring different chargers. Given that we travel frequently, the potential of having to invest in all the respective car chargers - and the potential mess it'd create in a closed car environment - has driven us into investigating the 'Car Inverter' solutions available in India.

I keep reading about 'AXIOM Car Inverters' here and there. It comes in three capacities - 75/150/300 Watts. The first two cost 1200/1500 respectively. What might I need? Has anyone used these car inverters? Do they give stable supply? Are they reliable? Are there any other cheaper, yet reliable, options available in India?

Any and all inputs are welcome and much appreciated!
