Weighing the Pros and Cons of the situation, ideal advice would be to go ahead with the FNG, complete the repair of the gear box using a "savage" option and then take aggressive steps of selling the car.

Corolla's are known to have their fair share of admirers and selling the car at a cost(i.e Owner expected price(should be reasonable and in sync with market rates)+ Cost of repairs)that includes the cost of the gear box replacement should not be too difficult.

Thank you guys for all the advise - most of the posts pointed towards a salvaged box with the rider that there is a slight risk .Given the fact that the car is decade old,my friend took a decision and went in for the salvaged box and yes, he did mention the mechanic is a trustworthy guy atleast.
