Default Torque and BHP

Hi... this is my first post even though been browsing Team BHP for quite sometime as an 'outsider'. Proud owner of a Maruti 800 for the past 8 years. Just unable to give up that car. I am sure there are enough queer guys like me loving their M800.

I want to know the difference between Torque and BHP. Did quite a bit of reading on the same but unable to understand the same in layman terms (I am a lawyer turned IT Consultant). For example Baleno Specification (a car I am thinking of buying very soon) states 91 BHP at 5500RPM and 130 Nm at 3000 RPM. Can someone explain these, in terms of driving experience. or what is that the engine delivers when I run at 3000 rpm or 5500 rpm... may be different gears. I will appreciate if engineering terms are avoided just to make me understand. Thanks.
