This is a photo of the filter as fitted by the garage I had gone to, that the dealer says was over torqued. Note the small crack extending under it?
IMO over torquing would probably damage the oil filter threads & gasket rather than cause cracks in the engine block.

Was the dealership able to check for filter thread & gasket damage? May be the filter canister is just not screwed on or seated properly.

Last but not the least, have the sump gasket and drain plug crush washer checked out OK?
