Something that not many people know

BMW's Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) fitted in the latest M3 contains a secret launch mode, according to American magazine Popular Science. If you switch off the stability control system, select shift programme six, select sport mode, put it in Drive, hold the gear lever in downshift position then hit the throttle, the engine will rev to 5000rpm - and when the lever is released, phenomenal acceleration results... This is down to a 'cheat code' in the SMG's software, rather like the hidden features sometimes contained in computer games, and allows the driver to override the electronic controls on the SMG 'box. To achieve this, the M3 must have the European-spec software (American cars are limited to 2500rpm), but a warning: using this feature will not only cost you dearly in tyre rubber, but could void your warranty. I also read this article, and i think u limited to do this 5 or 6 times only. The SMG is supposed to be really good. Ive driven a 328i with steptronic and a Alfa 147 with selespeed but i wasnt too impressed still prefer a clutch. The SMG has been said to be the best in this spec.

Wow, I knew that you could work around computer software...but never thought it would be this easy with a cars complicated wizardry. Why can you do this only 5-6 times?
