Default Castrol Nexcel: Engine Oil + Filter combined in one box

Castrol is working on the concept of Oil Cell which will make changing oil as simple as swapping a battery. The concept is named "Nexcel" and we should be seeing it in the market in about 5 years time.

It is a brilliant concept and hope it reaches the road cars sooner than later.

Nice concept.

Though the above concept means that car manufacturers may have to implement this at the production level. And it is of course not reversible.

If the above concept is popular, soon we may get Mineral oil cells, Semi Synthetic oil cells and Synthetic oil cells. All of the above in different sizes (capacities) for different cars. Considering the variety of products that needs to be manufactured, transported and stored at every retailer, I think this is going to be an expensive proposition.

Car owners may still have to go to the A.S.S. to get the oil filter replaced, unless they design a easier way to replace the filters as well. Then it would be a DIY.

By the way, what about draining the oil and disposing it?

Coming soon: Proprietary, oil and filter cartridges with authentication chips from car manufacturers, non-refillable. Warranty void if tampered with.

Mod Note: Thread moved to Technical Stuff. Thanks for sharing .

Very interesting. Will surely eliminate those oil sump concerns we have when driving on broken roads.

Although, I don't think car manufacturers will be willing to accommodate this in their tight engine compartments. This will also be a lot more expensive than a simple oil filter.

If anything, that might be the driving factor in implementing this technology.

With environmental concerns getting "fashionable" these days, pretty sure the "controlled" disposal at Castrol's facilities of the "extremely toxic" used engine oil will be a highlight to adopt this.

Of course the convenience aspect for consumers is commendable.

Cheers
