An interesting note about keyless engine start systems.

1. At low speeds, accidentally touching the button turned the car off
2. At higher speeds, the button is disabled.
3. However, if you still need to switch the car off using the start stop button, long press it to turn the car off.

Saw this comment below that article. "So you can turn off the signal, but most don't. Proverbially their lost. You have a 60,000 vehicle in your driveaway, and all you have to do to help protect it from being stolen is to turn off a signal, and you don't, then you're a mug. If it also takes, alternatively, to keep the key or keys in a metal container to block any access to its signal, and you don't do it, then you're a mug. With a vehicle like this, it should have a tracker, should have immobiliser that requires a code for the key signal to then operate the vehicle. Simply test it - put the key in a metal container and take it towards the vehicle, see if you can open the vehicle or even press start. It's not difficult, yet these owners fork out for the vehicle and just think everything else will take care of everything else. I do wonder what they do to earn the credit to afford the vehicle in the first place."

..and i still wonder what was the "need" of a keyless system after all? What need triggered it's development? :(

Here is a killer reason about Keyless systems

The deadly carbon monoxide toll of keyless cars: Calls for more safety regulations after at least 28 were killed and 25 injured by drivers accidentally leaving their motors running and their homes filling with fumes
  • At least 28 people have died and 45 were injured after they mistakenly left the engine running on their keyless ignition cars
  • The elderly were particularly at risk of forgetting to switch off the engines on their new, quieter cars
  • Toyota vehicles, which includes Lexus, was involved in around half the keyless carbon monoxide related deaths - including Jeanette, 70, and David Colter, 89
  • The automaker insists its keyless ignition cars 'meets or exceeds all relevant federal safety standards'
  • Society of Automotive Engineers has been calling for safety regulations such as warning signals when the car engine is left on, but the key fob is removed
  • Or a timed engine cut out when the fob is removed for more than 30 minutes
  • So far, proposed regulations have been rejected by the automotive industry

Luckily, fully enclosed garages or 'carports' with integrated
doors into living areas are not very common in India (in my experience).

I have left my Octy running twice in the last 2 years by mistake, both times distracted by someone calling me into the house before I completed my shutdown routine (turbo idling etc).

My garage is a 2 sides open one and hence no chance of CO building up!

I did this once when we went for shopping here in US. I got out of the car, locked it by pressing the sensor button in door and left to shopping. After couple of hours, when we came back I was shocked as the car was still running. I didn't tell my wife that time and she thought that I used remote start option in my key fob to start the car before we enter (My car is 2015 Nissan Altima and it is equipped with Remote engine start option).
