Default SWIFT - Shifting to 2nd gear problem

Anyone experience slight problem with gear shifter

When I shift from 1 to 2 - shift in not smooth at all.

It doesnt really have anything to do with tramissions

I am talking about the shifter feel from 1 to 2 gear.
It feels very lose / sticky and doesnt shift smoothly to 2nd gear.

Anyone experieced this?

I don't like the shift feel also. It does feel lose and easy and not chunky like it should. Its not tight and thick if you know what I mean.

I do feel the same. My Swift is Just 6 months old. First I used to feel that since I am a newbee at driving it was because i would not shift properly. But of late I too feel that my shifting is not a problem its the gearshift that has a problem. It some times gets stuck in the neutral while trying to shift from 1st to 2nd. shifting from 5th to fourth is also not smooth.

I think it is better than the Santro I had. My Santro used to slip to Neutral if I travelled on a huge speedbreaker.

I think this normal in most Marutis, Just raise the RPM a little when you shift. The transition from first to second is not slick. I found it really bad in WagonR, even new cars.

Push the lever to the extreme left and then shift to 2nd.

Oh, the swift shifter is good. It doesn't get stuck anywhere. Its just that its not in the league of say a Honda.

Do this, and the gears usually do slot in easily. Trying to slot into second while maintaining the same straight line doesnt work IMO.

I dont find any problems in 2nd gear. Its a long throw, thats it. The reverse and 5th are the main culprits. Just cant find 4th after 5th. Its been 3 years and no luck :(

With my limited range of cars driven I will hazard a guess that this shift is a little trickier than most - u have to get in the correct rev range else it never just 'happens'. Tech gurus may be able to contest/explain this better tho.

No man, I have had my swift for a year now and I aint finding this loose swift like you are. Why dont you drive some other swift and check.

Instead I find it a problem shifting the gear in reverse with the sound going kkrrrkkkk. LOL..

I think this is a Maruti trait. I had the same issue in my Omni. The service advisor kept saying it will become smooth and easy with use - 42000 km and 3 1/2 years, 2nd gear was always difficult to get into.

I believe what mail4ajo has written is so true. I do always the same and have never faced any trouble. A few times whenever the gear dont get engaged to 1st from neutral, while moving from stationary, I had to release the clutch and again engae it to 1st..But thats it..
I am not following the 'straight-line' gear engagement and used to route it thru the neutral by pushing extreme left or right..I would say, with a smaller shift, Swift is a boon in this matter compared to Wagon R, Santro etc.

Somtimes double clutching helps in such situations.

From a layman's idea, its because the clutch plate and flywheel are running at different speeds. Try boarding a bus or train while its in motion. I cant explain any better.

I have the problem in my Alto, Solve it by pressing the clutch fully or pressing twice.

I have been doing this at most times for down shifting. It gives a better downshift. Actually not required since our gears are synchromesh. But helps the get the plate up to speed before the shift. Works for me.
