Cell phones erase car keys
This article talks about high end Nissan cars. With modern cars coming with electronic keys and immobilizes, imagine the fiasco if such a thing starts happening with the Maruti's

There have been several incidents throughout the world that immobilisers played foul near strong radio signal areas - resulting motorists stranded on cars failing to start.

Moreover, if immobiliser packs up, it often costs a bomb to fix.

Tanveer, the article is an eye opener and scary as well. You rightly mentioned what would happen if something similar occurs here..Most people tend to keep the cellphone in the same pocket where the car keys are also slipped.

On a similar note:
An anaesthetist friend of mine found that on several occassions his credit cards were becoming non-functional. He finally traced it to occassions when he was going into the MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan room to give anaesthesia. The strong Magnetic fields of the MRI scan machine was playing havoc with his credit card! Incidentally, everbody is warned to remove keys [so the car key problem may not occur unless somebody takes it in] and metal objects when entering the MRI scan suite. I guess the super strong magnets may damage even cell phones, digital cameras etc., with their memory cards (neither sure about that nor do I want to find out!)

dont think i have to worry about that but cellphone interfering with my car keys!! uh-oh i dont know what to get rid offff?

perhaps buy a leather key case and keep the keys in it.

Since when did leather develop a RF shield?! Heard of magnetically shielded speakers to avoid distorting the image on a TV screen but not this one!
