Just came back from a highway ride. 5 people, Full time A/C, speeds of 80-100kmph.
mileage delivered --> 15kmpl, which is around the same as what my friend got in his Swift on same route and similar conditions.

i still think getting 15 out of an alto on a highway with a/c is still way less than what is expected out of it

i have 185 60r13 on my alto and i get 20+ with a/c on highway all the time

Did you get the ecu checked? First try checking all the sensors using teh tech2 at MUL service centre. If no error codes, then try to get a ecu swap from MUL and check mileage.

I dunno buy I think the ecu could be faulty. I have the same problem with low mileage and have to get the ecu checked.

Yes got it checked as I mentioned in earlier post.
No error codes. And the plugs show the mixture to be spot on!
Dont know what the problem is.

My mileage after filling up today:

365kms/28.97litres = 12.63kmpl

with ac on in city traffic. One spirited run of 15kms.

This is what I quoted in post no.17 of this thread:
Quote:
Even in worst traffic condtts of Delhi with 100%AC, the lowest I have got is 16.2.
Now guess what...
This morning I went to my usual petrol bunk (HP in front of Hyatt). Got a full tank. The readings and measurements were: (100% AC, City)

Petrol Consumed: 28.26 + 11.48 (from earlier 500 bucks fill)= 39.74 ltrs
kms travelled : 587
Mileage : 587/39.74= 14.77 kmpl!

I was like.. How come!
It "might" be coz of the fuel, but wouldnt be able to figure that out soon as I have refilled from the exact same petrol pump.
Will post my experience after filling from some other station..

i get around 13 with 100% city driving with a/c so getting 15 is a good think and the fe figures depend on the person driving
when my driver drives the car he get around 17 -18 with a/c
so it depend on the driver and not merely the car

SS, some thoughts:
1. As FE depends a lot on individual driving styles, it would be nice to know what FE do you get on any other cars you might be driving.
2. You have always tested the highway FE of this alto with full load and 100% AC in full blasting summer in north. In short, its almost the worst case scenario for checking FE. Can you make a trip with just one passenger next time you go out of town? After all its a small 796cc engine!

15 is way too low. On Ludhiana Delhi runs with AC on our old santro gives 16+ and sometimes 18 if we do not push above 100 or so.
Since your outer diameter with current tyres is similar to the stock ones, the problem should not be tyre related.
Possible issues :
1.Wheel bearing worn out, or brake pad fouling the disks or drums leading to increased friction hence lesser mileage. To test it put car on ramp and see of wheels rotate freely.
2. Tuning related : MPFI car with ECU so easy to set. Need to go to a decent service station
3. Fuel filter etc., related
4. Bad fuel. Try filling normal petrol from a C&C outlet(The big one on Madhya marg which is the crowd favorite, and add fuel additive(System G) yourself.

You are a very heavy foot driver dude. Until and unless you redline the car in 1st 3 gears you dont slot the 4th. and 5th gear is something which doesn't exist
for you.

18 is normal avg i used to get with AC within Chandigarh and Panchkula. Either the new 32bit alto engine got some issues or i dont know how to calculate FE...

And i always fill fuel from reputed petrol pumps. Mosty sector 21 COCO petrol pump.

From my exp FE is highly driver specific unless there is some major fault. With my own driving under same driving condtions & witha difference in driving method, my Alto returns me anything from 13.5 to 18 kpl & this is with 50% ac. & yes I have a heavy foot

1. I got only one car, so never tested on any other car. But It's light foot and gear shifting at appropriate RPM's.

2. Yes bro. Unfortunately that's the scene. Highway ride is always with family and without A/C in this northern summer is pure torture.

Did a Ludhiana-Jalandhar Run yesterday. And came back today morning. 80-100kmph speeds. 100% A/c. 3 people. Moderate luggage. 16kmpl.

Anyways.
1. Yes, Wheel bearings or axle related could be possible issues as Have occasionally heard sounds on turning steering. Also Accelerating from rest with steering locked to rightmost produces little jerks sometimes. (Depends on throttle. More throttle = Less jerks. Moderate throttle like 2.5-3k revs have noticeable jerking. But not so when steering straight.)

2. Tuning related: OBD scanner says all normal. Spark plugs say same too.

3. Fuel Filter: I remember this wasnt changed at service cuz the guy claimed that it wasn't required. How does a filter affect economy?

4. Bad Fuel: Tried two reputed Pumps. One Mahalaxmi(Xtra Premium) near Milk plant ferozepur road, and Super Service station (Power) near Gulmohar hotel. Pretty much same figures both times.

I think the average is bit low by about 1 - 2 kmpl. The reason may be that you wud have got the fuel tank refilled from highway. These petrol pumps are always tempered. E.g - if you got your tank filled with pertrol of Rs 1,000/-, you actually got into your car petrol worth Rs 800 only.

Hence probably you miscalculated the average..
