HM uses MOTUL as OE oil for the Lancer and Cedia. Although I'm not sure if they use synthetic or mineral.

For Bombay heat (where I assume the temparature will never be below 5 degrees) 20W50 oil makes much more sense than a 0W40 or a 5W40 or a 10W40 or a 15W40.
Synthetic or mineral, that I guess depends on your budget.
You will do an engine flush I suppose.
I advise you not to use the flush which says idle for 5 minutes. These are very "harsh".
Try the STP etc., which require 35 minutes of idling before draining oil.
Mobil 1 Super Syn is a 15W50 API-SL engine oil with 2600ppm of detergent and with P-1343 Zn-1390 B-205 ppm levels.
If I were to splurge on a synthetic for a petrol car, this would be my choice.
Then there is a Mobil 1 EP 15W50 oil too which high levels of these three metals.

Thank you for the responses fellows

@ Jaggu : I plan to keep the car for 6 years atleast if not more.

@ vid & GTO : I dont drive the car hard and from what I could make out, the previous owner never really revved the car in its life. My driving style is very sedate.

I was thinking of Mobil 1 just to keep the engine happy. Is 10k a good interval between oil changes for Mobil 1? My air filter is the stock K&N replacement. Cleaning that is not a problem.

So Mobil 1 it is?

Dippy, in reply to your post on my vtec thread

I changed at 40000. Car felt tappety but it pulled harder and revved more smoothly. It tolerates harder use. Considering that it goes on the track every two -three months. It is worth it. Also car feels less ropey when a service is due. I have extended intervals to around 4-5k

Thanks ajmat the regular recommended oil change is every 5000 kms. What should be the specific interval after changing to synthetic? Can it be 10,000 kms?

Default My Experience

I added Mobil 1 Supersyn to my OHC about a month and a half back after doing a thorough Engine Flush. My Odo was clocking about 68,000 then.

I distinctly remember noticing a very perceptible Smoothness to the engine when I red-lined just after the change.

Obviously, now I won't be able to tell you the difference because I've got used to the Mobil 1. But yes, the fact that I perceived a change immediately post change does corroborate the general belief that Synthetic Oil is good for the Engine.

@Dippy: I'd suggest a change of the transmission oil.
And yes, 10,000 is a good oil change interval.

@nitrous : Absolutely. AT tranny oil is due for a change at the 40k service. Honda recommends a tranny oil change at every 20k kms.

Yes,Gautham. Go ahead.
But, dont forget to flush the engine before oil change.
Also,Id suggest we discuss lubricants in this thread:http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modify...neral-oil.html (ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil)
