| Might be a naive question - what's the difference between a OHC vtec & the NHC vtec? Back in 2001 I had convinced by dad to buy the VTEC Honda City. Now I am thinking of buying the VTEC honda city. I am also considering whether it would be wise to take my dad's honda city and mod it up for a lil more power (10-15%). Any advice? |

Basic difference is power, NHC VTEC churns out 100bhp whereas the old one puts out 106bhp. The new does not have the outright performance of the OHC VTEC people say and even the steering of the new city doesn't offer good feedback since it is a electronic PS compared to HPS of the old one. OHC VTEC is an absolute hoot to drive!! The other difference being the looks. I quite don't like the new one compared to the beautiful OHC. The only negative point with the OHC is the suspension and the lack of safety features (NHC VTEC is available with ABS and airbags).

Just back from a 600km round trip to D'dun and back (from Gurgaon). Touched 130kmph for a few seconds. Didn't have the courage (or stupidity) for more than that on that road plus the car started to have the feeling of "flying". Not the mention, the steering was shaking (probably needs wheel alignment). At those speeds (100+), I find the stock tires too inadequate for safe braking. Trying to convince dad to buy a new car for himself and let me have his :-)

| BHPian | Hi Guys, Bought the OHC Vtec on 1st Aug 2007. Have driven it for approx 13k kms since then(Total 63k). Have reached a max of 180kmph. FE stands at 8-10 kmpl in city and 14-16 on highways. I find that the FE in city is on the lower side. Any tips? My mechanic tells me that its coz of the wheels and tyres(205/50/15). Have faced problems with my front suspension (thanks to the wheels and tyres again). Also had a stupid problem with the CEL due to the foolish rats. TO SUM IT ALL I JUST LOVE MY BEAUTY![]()

Anyways the mileage reduction might be coz of the tyres size/profile difference. Do you calculate the odo difference while calculating the mileage?

| BHPian | I dont think there would be a substantial difference in the odo coz the size difference should be less than 3%. Do correct me if i am wrong...

The top speed comes on 4th and not 5th. All this is true given your car has stock engine and gearbox. Or may be you are claiming the numbers by your speedo - which seems way off the reality. But doing 195kmph on 5th is still unlikely. Last edited by Pankaj401 : 12th July 2008 at 03:34. Reason: Another thought struck me! | |
