No idea as of the date/month is concerned. 10 digit of the VIN represent the Year, so its 2009. Will try to collect some info about TATA vehicle soon. Also can you tell me which model you have purchased it.

Its a Wagon R. There will an additional 2 digit after this and the same can be found underneath the hood/ Bonnet, like MA3EED81S00852481-L9

If its L then it represent November 2009, if other please look at the chart below

A9 = JAN 2009
B9= FEB
C9= MAR
D9= APR
E9= MAY
F9= JUNE
G9= JULY
H9= AUG
J9= SEP
K9= OCT
L9= NOV
M9= DEC

For members who wanted to know the exact date of production of their car follow this.

At the time dealer notifies you that your vehicle has been arrived, then ask for the FORM 22 certificate. You can find the Engine Number and Chassis Number of the particular vehicle. Also check the Date/Month/Year in the Road worthiness certificate in Form 22 to get the details of manufacturing.

Form 22 is issued from the Manufacturer.

Hi Wildon, were you able to collect some info on how we can decode a Honda VIN ? Or can I blindly believe the date/month mentioned in Form22 and road worthiness certificate which the dealer gives me ?

^^^ At present in Honda vehicles month and year of manufacturing is printed in the boot along the 17 digit VIN number

for eg: M****************-****
If the last 4 digits are like 1109 it represents November 2009

Road worthiness certificate are comes after the approval from ARAI, so for every manufacture its compulsory .

Form 21 is the one which dealer submitts to the RTO
Form 22 is from the Manufacturer

What if a manufacturer himself manipulates the data ?

for e.g SKODA case recently came up.

The 17 digit VIN number decoded from each and every known sites clearly says that that particular vehicle is manufactured in the year 2008.

But.... when decoded it from skoda sources its saying it manufactured in 2009 !!

As per the declaration by SKODA to ARAI saying that .. In SKODA Vehicles the SIXTH digit of VIN represents the Month of manufacturing and the TENTH digit represents the Year of Manufacturing.

The VIN in question TMBCGH1U88A009754 and still SKODA says it manufactured in 2009.

Hi Wildon, I booked a Punto on 14th Nov; yet to take delivery of the vehicle. The dealer has given me this VIN and told me that 01/Nov is the manufacture date for this vehicle. Could you please confirm? Could you also give the engine no.?
