Came across an electronic massager seat for cars while browsing through flipkart.com and thought of sharing this, though I am not sure of the product or of any reviews. Might be the info is helpful to some of us.

Search for 'Luxury Car Massager' in flipkart.com

I am having lower back pain since 10 years which has been attributed to inflammation and driving a Baleno for the last 6 years has only added to it.

Mods: A quick search on this thread for 'massager' did not bring out any results. If this has already been discussed earlier, please feel free to delete this post.

Hey Guys, a Bit OT here but need your Help and input.

My Wife has been suffering from Neck/back pain from over 2 month now. She also complains of the pain running through her upper chest. We got pretty much every test including X Ray, ECG, Blood Test done since she was pretty patrified with symptoms. We consulted over 5 Orthos and all of them confirmed that it was nothing serious but a "Common IT Posture' Syndrome.
My Wife works with one of the IT/ITES org as HR and I would probably admit to the fact that she has a very bad posture at work. I even forced her to start off gymming along with me and insisted the trainer to take her through only free hand excercises. Apparently, she is complaining about increasing pain daily.

So Guys, can you please help me with the following :
  • Can anybody suggest the best method of rehab to curb this pain. Can some experts here suggest if my wife should take a break from work ?
  • I have not got MRI scan done yet since Doctors confirmed it was not necessary. Can anybody confirm the same or otherwise ?
  • I have been thinking about starting a physiotherapy session for my wife from any of the reputed physio therapist. Can you please advise some in and around South Bangalore for the same.
Would really appreciate all your input guys since I am finding it really hard to fix this issue my wife is suffering from.

Think twice before taking a break if it going to be a long one, since getting back to work after a break is difficult in many ways. Since I am in the same boat (an IT nobody who screwed up his career taking too much break for back pain yet really not caring for the back), I would suggest taking up yoga (doing seriously under a guru) along with work first, as I am not a doctor to comment on the extend of the issue. The most important long term remedy for back pain is correcting the posture (sitting erect) and strengthening the back (core and back strengthening exercises do help). All these are from my personal experience and I would only be glad to be corrected by an expert.

How about Yoga?

Consult a good yoga master, I am sure it can be helped.
There is a yoga centre called Sri raghavendra yoga center in Basweshwernagar -just west of Pavitra paradise. Talk to the yoga master there - he sure can help.

Just half hour yoga everyday will be of help. After a few days of classes at the yoga center under guidance, it can be done at home everyday.

Also ask your wife to avoid riding a two wheeler, swim a lot, avoid sitting for too long at a stretch, sleep on the ground with just a small mat underneath(tough initially but will get used to)...

Regards,

www.recoup.in - Home should help you.

A friend in IT was so much in trouble with RSI that he could not unscrew a bottle (because his fingers were so badly affected) got back to regular life after meeting this gent.

If you were in delhi, I could've recommended my sports injuries doc.

EDIT: Taking a break is something most doctors recommend against these days (and one of my docs showed me Jun 2010 orthopaedic journal saying the same!!). Even my feb 2011 episode (3 prolapsed discs - 1 severely, 1 torn knee meniscus) were solved without a day off

I would suggest you to visit a good physio therapist. Sitting posture is a major contributor towards the back pain issue.

I had a similar issue 2 years back and the thing that helped me out was regular exercise. I was informed about the fact that one needs to get their core strengthened in order to get long term relief from back pain.

Abdominal Muscles and the Back muscles are the one that support our upper body and they need to be made strong.

I was given a few set of exercises and I could feel the difference within a couple of weeks and was advised to continue with them. Regular exercise seems to have worked for me.

I am no expert but I don't think taking a break from work would be a solution if this is a case of back pain caused by incorrect sitting posture.

You can surely take a second/third opinion from different doctors for your own satisfaction, but firstly consult a physio therapist and check the progress after a few weeks of regular exercise.

Thank you All for your valuable Input guys......It Really Helps a lot. I am addicted to staying fit myself and have never stopped gymming in the last 10 years. I have had such pains myself but have only lasted for a day or two.

I have been insisting my wife to start off with free hand workouts and later gradually move into Yoga.

I used to complain of persistent back pain a few years ago. I attended an intensive Yoga session done by a leading Yoga Guru here. Every time I am lazy enough to skip doing yoga, I get the pain again. But a few days regular practice puts an end to the pain. But yoga is something you learn from experienced gurus to avoid causing permanent damage to your back.

Thanks for your input, I purchased a backrest from Amron at last. I contacted Amron earlier and they informed me that they had a representative in Calcutta. I also contacted the representative but he was not able to deliver me the backrest on time. So I purchased a thickly padded cushion from a local bedding store before my visit to the neighbouring state of Orissa in the month of December and was using it since then. It helped a little but ultimately decided to go for the backrest from Amron. IMHO this one is definitely better, when compared to a cushion.

Thanks phamilyman for the lead. Quite surprised to see the small town of Thrissur among the metros.
I have this recurring lower back pain and shoulder pain for about three years. Many orthos i visit suggest pain killers and some exercises. But exercises too dont stop pain completely. Will take appointment with these guys and give a feedback.

Exercises stop pain completely. The right ones.

Not a single back spasm since Mid March. Of course, YMMV given your doctor.

I would also suggest getting a Treadmill Test to rule out Heart Disease. My mother was treated for years for spondilytis/neck pain only to find out that is was a heart problem. She couldnt even walk for short distances before the neck pain would start. All reports like ECG, Echo for the heart problem were normal and there was no respite from the regular physical treatment like traction for the neck to reduce the pain and only the TMT test indicated blocked arteries.

I dont mean to scare you with this but I've lost faith in all other mechanisms of identifying heart disease other than the TMT test.
