My personal experience, all redline (6500rpm) or slightly more/less:
Values in brackets denote the manufacturer's specification.
1st gear: 55 kmph (50)
2nd gear: 100 kmph (90)
3rd gear: 145 kmph (140)
4th and 5th: Top speed. Never tried to hit top speed in the 4th gear, but the car manual says you can. (175)

I have touched 180 once.

Since I don't have my car manual with me now, please correct me wherever I've gone wrong.

will check the car manual once, but seeing these speeds I am beginning to think that there may be serious speedo error in my Baleno. In stock condition my Baleno's in gear speeds were like -

1st gear - never noticed
2nd gear - 110 kmph
3rd gear - 165 kmph
4th gear - 185 kmph

the tires in my car are stock lxi ones i.e 165/80/R13

after installing the FFE the top speeds have not changed in any of the gears except the fourth one. nowadays the speedo reaches 190 kmph on a 3.5 km bridge.

The max I have done:

1st - don't remember
2nd - between 100-105 (around 103 I guess)
3rd - don't remember if I went beyond 140.
4th - 180
5th - 175

Both at 180 & 175 it felt that it would not go any further.

Would the Baleno or for that matter any car with tall gearing, be slightly faster to the ton if one shifts from 2nd to 3rd at around say 4k rpm, i.e. without redlining in 2nd and loosing out on acceleration as @Shan mentioned.

How can you conclude that you are hitting a ton in less then 11 seconds? No matter how well maintained your car is the Swift with mobil1 and Stock replacement KnN & Bosch Super Plugs will never ever hit 100 in less then 12 seconds and mark my words for that. If you have then either you speedo is way over optimistic or else your timing gear is broken.

A stock Esteem takes 11.49 to hit 100 with the same engine, so how the hell will a car weighing almost 200kgs heavier and taller then the Esteem hit it in less then 11 seconds.

Your very highly mistaken go check your car, speedo and your timing and get back.

ACI, OD all mags report Swift 0 - 100 to be around 12.8 seconds.

I myself have been driving a Petrol Swift since a week and it will never hit 100 in less then 12 seconds.

Whether people drive your car or not is totally academic and doesnot make it faster or slower.

And if your so interested in still arguing in your car hitting in 11 seconds then lets meet at the Speed Run and have a Quarter Mile Drag race, if you beat me (my car is Swift Diesel) then i will agree your car hits it under 11 seconds.

Cheers and accpet the facts

No offense,

BUSA

there is a K & N Universal filter also but that does not make it any faster. i will let somebody take a pic and post it. but I am again saying that its the speed shown on the speedo, so there must be some speedo error.

BTW CYNVERDIE, Your tyres have a huge error of 4.8%, so when your car is at 96kmph, your actually doing 91.36kmph, so in all probability when you hit 100 on your speedo your doing 95.5kmph in reality and plus the speedos are not acurate, another 5 kmph, so when you do 100 your doing just 90kmph in 11 seconds, and rest 1.8seconds more to reach 100.

SHUVC - Petrol cars accelerate the best at higher revvs, so if peak power is at say 94bbph@5500RPM then you will gain some time by shifting at peak power IMO, correct me if i am wrong.

Baleno Vs OHC VTEC (read OHC VTEC, not just OHC)? Got to be kidding.

Firstly, the Vtec is way quicker to the ton and 1/4 mile when compared to the Suzi. Also while comparing the two cars one must also keep in mind that there is a difference of 12bhp or 15bhp depending on E-II or E-III balenos. This difference is a hell lot when compared on bone stock cars. Which obviously shows in the end results.

Also one needs to consider the fact that the Vtec revvs to 7100 rpm while the Baleno revvs to 6500 or 6750 (depending on versions) minus the Vtec (which plays a significant role in the way it revvs). Plus the taller gear ratios on the Baleno doesn't always translate to better power delivery as well.

If both cars are to be measured on an even keel what one will have to do is get a higher cam profile for the Baleno to make up for the Vtec advantage, change the intake and make the Baleno revv to 7,100 as well. All this with the Vtec being stock. Only then would it be a fair comparo.
Atleast to a certain extent. Even then the Vtec would still be in a advantageous position.

Also, weight-wise, isn't the VTEC lighter?
