I was also under the impression that the Ikon (being American and all) is much heavier than its peers. But in the 17-car test, its kerb weight is mentioned as 968kg, which makes it lighter than the OHC and Baleno. Is that the correct weight of the Ikon ? Ikon owners ???

guys you are using indiacar site for classification info!!! i rest my case !!!

and please move from this OHhhh so my Honda phenomenon and drive other cars and then comment. Yes iKON might be slower and even slower to slow down but what the hell, its the best fun you can get under 7 lakhs then. i bought mine after checking out Honda's, Accents of the world of the world and only thing that tilted me slightly to type 2 OHC was its looks. Baleno was somehow shot down but was the second choice compared to OHC.

Stock Honda is a gals car with absolutely no driver involvement required, when i meant gal i meant the dumb chic who can criss cross on an express way without thinking, its that predictable and easy to use.

enough said!!

I wonder what happened to the much-hyped "sub 10 sec" to the ton for the Vtec ?
Well actually it did a 9.92 during it's road test. If you check any of the older OD mags where the OHC Vtec is mentioned, they use 9.92 and not 10.12. Possible that the fastest 0-100 for an Ikon could have been better than 14.15but on this day, both cars did 10.12 and 14.15 respectively.

It wasn't Indiacar but Overdrive that did this test. Same drivers, same testing conditions and proper testing gear (no speedo indicated figures).

@Jaggu, could you please elaborate on this ? I am not sure I understood what you meant by the Honda not requiring any driver involvement, being predictable and easy to use as say compared to the Ikon ??? What's so different between the two cars ?

It is a nice way of describing the handling characteristics of iKON, which can wiggle when pushed on a twisting road. Some men like it that way

Stock OHC set up is very close to neutral, and thats not to my licking. Suspension very soft and feels fragile. Yes if you are doing above 100 and hit a pot hole you will just crash the front end. Steering is light which gets scarier when you touch 120 kph plus and lift off happens at 145 kph.

On the other hand iKON steering itself is meatier nice feedback, chassis tighter and starts to under steer first and suddenly will over steer. The car is not at all forgiving with its handling and un predictable. On the other hand, suspension though pre-historic loves the broken patch, thumping its way through the potholes and yes holding rear in place is good fun.

In short for a involved drive i would choose iKON. Honda too forgiving = boring in my books.

Ok define fun? ask guys who took OHC to tracks how they laughed at iKON drivers trying to correct this, that and what not me i was grinning myself inside the iKON and not bothered.

What are you saying dude. Once you say the OHC feels light and takes off at 145kmph and then you say it's boring coz it's too easy to drive and very predictable. How can a car be predictable and boring, if it's barely touching the ground?

U seem to be contradicting your own statements.

The only one who religiously gets his Ikon on track is Nitrous and i don't rem anyone laughing at him or his driving. I dunno what made you think so (unless you had a bad experience when you drove on track).

OK, before that happens, let us atleast come to a conclusion on the original queries that the thread-creator had.

The 17-car test is definitely one scenario where these 2 cars were part of the test and from what I read, the testing was pretty unbiased and scientific.

Based on the results of the 17-car test, the OHC-Vtec definitely outruns the Baleno in 0-100 and 0-100-0. I hope we can accept this and move on. Cheers to the Vtec.

And from what I read on the other Vtec-Baleno thread, the Baleno beats the OHC-1.5, which in itself is pretty good given that it runs 6 horses lesser than the OHC for the same kerb weight. So cheers to the Baleno too.

Phew!!!

Since this thread is about OHC VTEC vs Baleno, it is settled.

For OHC vs Baleno, we need a new thread.

Phew!!!
