is this normal ?
Ravi has answered most of it. The temperature needle can remain in the centre if you are in traffic or you are going slowly. The air flow also contributes to cooling and so if your car runs at speed with no vehicle in front the temperature needle comes to to the left.

As Ravi has pointed out, you should not worry as long as it does not cross the centre mark.

Take a look at the following:

It is supposed to reduce the engine noise flt / heard inside. It looks good.

One of my friend's bought a second hand Indigo LX. after a drive, I propped the hood and voila! it had this cover.

The engine noise of this 76000kms 2003 Indigo LX was definitely lower than my 2005 Mairna LS TDi. But not that much!

It is your take now!

My car is in workshop.Engine Overhauling and some other miscellaneous works.
One problem:
the place where engine is mounted is completely rusted! It is the carrier/holder like thing(2 no.s -each on LHS and RHS side) on the engine bay just down the front glass where it is mounted. Both tata spare parts distributor and workshop guys are having tough time identifying the parts code.any info atleast what it is "called" ?

Its the people who maintain it who are faulty
most of these cars are run without any maintenence until something breaks down!

Unhappy Alternator + Voltage + Idling Issues

I was hoping I will NEVER post in this thread, But hey, I own a TATA and sooner or later I belong here. So here it goes...

History:
1) I own a TATA Indigo CS LS, TDI Engine, 25,000 Kms completed since 1-June-2008.
2) All was OK until this accident. Car was completely stipped and rebuilt. Parts changed were PURELY chassis oriented + Gear

Shifter and a couple of front suspension parts.
3) It is been 7000Kms since its last FULL service and nearing its next service.

--------PROBLEM---------

1) After the accident the entire car was rebuilt, nothing other than the under-chassis-cross-member was replaced - only suspension mechanical parts were replaced. The rest of the Under-hood & Under-Dash was Removed & Refixed.

2) One night while driving back I noticed my car was auto-dipping HIGH-LOW-HIGH-LOW by itself - not through the switch though. The low beam itself was ACTING UP like IT WAS A CURRENT SURGE. Bright-Normal-Bright-Normal.

3) Nowadays - the Fan blower starts increasing from 2-3 speed like flow itself. Not through the switch, BUT AGAIN THRU A CURRENT SURGE. The blower gets SO much more VOLTAGE that its goes 'whoooosh-normal-whooosh-normal' very rapidly.
IRRITATING..!!

4) All of a sudden the front Component speakers STOP working -come back on, Rear ovals STOP-Come back on. At times the Player Goes 'BLANK' and comes back on - I think Excess Voltage is making the auto-cutoff in the AMP work...!!

5) Off all this - the RPM..!! How can I not TELL THAT. Starting Idle is @ 850 - Ok good. Some where during the drive the AC FAN Goes 'Whoosh-normal-whoosh-normal', Audio goes 'dead-alive-dead' - Then I pull over and come to neutral & 'AC OFF' and RPM is CONSTANT 1050-1100. Then I cool the turbo quickly for 30Secs and Switch off the engine. Switch it back on and Viola... 850~ RPM. Another KM or 2 - PROBLEM DEJA Vuuu...!! But some times, during the course of my 12Km home-office drive, this problem NEVER occurs.

6) Oh - And when I notice the idling RPM is 1050-1100, I just switch on the AC, the compressor brings down the RPM to normal 1000 RPM (if AC is ON) - crazy....!!! AC, PwrSteering, FUEL EFFICIENCY ALL OK, FE is Ok because I drive ALWAYS with AC, so the HIGH RPM doesnt make a diff - it comes down if the AC is On...!!

Majorly confused and need desperate help...

seems like your alternator might be acting up. you might be having voltage surges in between, get it checked. if you have a multimeter - check the voltages yourself

Put a multimeter to the battery terminals and observe. Looks like Alternator regulator issues

err.. guys, how exactly do I check that? I remember a multimeter is the yellow and red wire thingy with a speedo meter box and many holes to plug in the wires.... now which holes (voltage) do I plug in the 2 wires on the meter and which of the yellow/red do I touch the black/red combo in the battery?

Please give a small TO-DO point check list...
