I left my car unused for 2 months.
All I did was
1. Disconnect the battery
2. Overinflate tires to 34psi

When I came back and plugged the battery, the car started immediately. I let if idle for 5 minutes. The fuel tank was 1/4th, I got her tanked up at the station 3kms away
The tires were at 28-29PSI(Tubeless tires).
the big problem? The drivers seat was covered in mild fungus, had to get interior washed.
I had kept silica gel in all pockets etc.,(got a huge 1kg bag of silica gel for car and house for 95rs) and the dashboard. No issues or molds there.
you can sprinkle anti fungal talcum powder on the upholstery.

I had kept the car covered, so no dust issues either.

Default Precaution for putting the car for prolonged non use of car

One of my relative is going to US for about 1 year. During this period his i10 (Era irde) will not be used. He has inquired at the Authorised Dealer about precautions to be taken and he has been told that nothing is required except disconnecting battery cables.

Is this sufficient? What about tyres and engines. What else is required to be done?

@Mods:
I tried to search but could not find any topic on such issue. If this is not the right section kindly transfer it to suitable section of the forum.

Thanks.

Really Good Idea.

Pretty old thread coming alive. I think 2-3 months should not create any problem other than battery if car is parked properly in shed and covered and its not rainy season.

Default Swift VDi - Long term Parking

Hi Guys, I have recently traveled abroad and had planned to leave the car with my parents. Unfortunately, there is not much need for them to drive the car...

Looks like the car will be parked for about 3-4 months min. How bad will it impact the car?

Any pointers?

Thanks in advance.

I do not think 3-4 months will have any adverse effect on the car. You can disconnect the battery to ensure the battery does not drain out completely. It will be good to change the engine oil on your return. If possible, you can also remove the wheels and keep the car on jacks, though I don't think that is really required if it is for only 3-4 months.
Have a good trip abroad and don't worry. Your car will be just fine. I hope the car is parked in a covered area.

I would second what dinu says below, but also, if there is a possibility that someone could start and run the car for five minutes once a week, that should keep the car perfectly ok.

Hi Guys,

I had to leave my Bimmer standing for 2 months and I see signs of fungus... Could any Bangy Boys help me where to find Silicon Sachets or similiar setup?

As a person having gone through this experience (my car was not used regularly for 2 years) one of the after effects I saw upon my return was the impact on the tyres. Since it was very sparingly used and the car was parked most of the time, the tyres had deformed a little (albeit not visible) and this resulted in increased road noise. It took me more than 4K of regular use for the noise to subside.

Since the period you are referring to is only 3-4 months, I dont think it should be a great deal but I would still urge you to have someone do the following:

1. Take the car out at least once a week and drive it for a few kms.
2. More importantly, it is better to maintain a higher tyre pressure when parked. This is the key in maintaining the shape of the tyre when parked.

Hope this helps.
