Default Insurance claim for broken windshield

After about a year of usage, my beauty has got scars on her face.. yes, my WagonR has gotten a broken windshield thanks (?) to some rogue at a parking lot at a tourist place.
Well, what I wanna know is whether it's good to claim insurance for the costs involved ? As per the service centre the cost involved would Rs4500 (glass) + Rs.1200(labour) + Rs.2500(Rubber sealant) + Rs.500(Insurance processing charge)..

Can someone assist me to know whether it's worth getting a work of this magnitude through insurance claims ? If yes, what is it with the "Insurance processing" charge claimed by the dealer - he says it's their charge to get the surveyor and arrange eveyrthing. Is this normal ?

Looking forward to replies to help on this 1st-time thing

Cheers - Shrey

Check out windshield experts if you have them in your city, they take care of all insurance matters under one roof without any additional charges.
The cost of windscreen replacement too is much less than the A.S.S.

Lukeskywalker, can you list the windshield experts in Bangalore? My windshield got a crack yesterday, thanks to a few kids, near my friend's house, where it was parked.

Thanks,

Yes it is. I've paid it for every insurance claim (5 claims in last 1.5 yrs ). My insurance has been "Maruti insurance" with New India/National.

Default go for insurance and with maruti A.S.S

u will get 50% of windshield cost...whenever u claim u have to pay 500 bucks... forget abt that amount... labour and all is taken care of by the insurance people...

there is a cut off point or u can say break even point which decides whether to go for insurance or not.... it is as stated below... if cost of repair > no claim bonus that u will get for next or this year then go for insurance...

if cost of repair is say just rs 1000 or < no claim bonus ..get it done urself from any local cheap but gud workshop.,,

but if u r goin for insurance make sure it is MUL A.S.S

Default Go for it

I am a veteran of many a crashes :-) and i suggest you to go for the insurance. There is no depreciation in glass so you will get 100% of the claim amount on the cost of glass... 500 bucks is some fee they came up with so they can squeeze more money out of you, but you have to pay it. no way out... if this is your first claim, then next year when u renewing ur insurance, you wil lose out on a 20% NCB (No Claim bonus) on the premium amount.. meaning if u had filed for no insurance claims in the whole year, you would have got a 20% discount the following year on your renewal.. for eg:

first yr : 10k premium
second yr : 9k if there was a claim, otherwise if no claim it will be 7200/-, i.e 20% cheaper
hope it helps...

I am afraid as far as I know the claim drops to Zer, and not two notches.

I broke the screen on my Accent last year. The estimated cost was 7k+ for Hyundai. Got is done outside for Rs.3100 (2300 glass, 400 PU, 400 labour)! The Glass is not Asahi but Safex (Malayasia) laminated. If I had taken Asahi the price would have been about 2k more.

Nope, that is not correct. You will get full coverage of the windscreen, though you can expect to pay some minimal charges. Also, the rubber beading (if required) will not be fully covered.

Glass is paid back in full in case you claim but for the rubber beading & silicon sealant you're only going to get a 50% return. Decide based on your Insurance premium whether it's beneficial to claim it from Insurance or not.

Thanks,
There are two outlets in Bangalore from what I remember.
One is somewhere in Madiwala, and the other is on Dickenson road, next to Manipal Centre.
I have the number of one Kishore from windshield experts: 9980010254.
From what I know they even come to your doorstep if your car is not in a drivable condition.
Cheers_Hari.

Slightly OT, THE Wind Shield experts office in Pune is on Pune Satara Road, had recently spotted it, forgot the exact location but some where near the City Pride Multiplex on the opposite side.

Default Thanks a lot..

.. for all those inputs.
Now I can peacefully pay that Rs.500 as processing charge and also get the work done under insurance, for which I was apprehensive about earlier

Thanks once again folks.. Team-Bhpians Really rock!!

Are you sure it is only 50% and not 100%, ie full cost is reimbursed. 50% is for plastic parts.

Hi agentsmith,

Did you get the windshield replaced through WE? If so how was the quality of the overall job and that of the replaced shield?

I cracked my Aveo's windshield and General Motors has quoted about 9k while WE says about 6k. Confused which one to go for as the GM one is Saint Gobain while WE's brand is Asahi.
