Apparently, "pump" braking is the least effective. BTW, can anyone explain "squeezing the brake" in better terms?

The article on threshold braking is very useful.
Squeezing means pressing the brake gradually ( and firmly) instead of kicking the brake ( slamming).
Even common sense suggests that squeezing the brake is more effecting than slamming the brake.It is nice to see that the article confirms this.
