However, if you feel the battery is showing signs of giving up, change it by all means.

You could consider the Maintenance-free batteries from Exide; they are pretty good. Should cost ~5k. You could even get some discount if you return your old one.
The Service Lamp & Water in Fuel Filter Lamp has been coming on & off, of recent. Got it checked at MASS, they said you can use it as long as it runs, but don't try to push the car & start on clutch if it dies down!
I observed it started coming up after I started the car after 8 Days & second time after 3 Days. Should I try to have it full charged once before thinking of getting it replaced. Water Level is okay!

Are you sure the service lamp coming on is related to the battery?

Are you having trouble starting the car btw?

You could try charging the battery overnight once and then check.

MASS Says so & I also checked a lot of other threads & blogs for SWIFT VDI- seems to be identical.
But I have also seen, that the indicators mentioned above go away if I turn off & start again. (Sometimes need to do it a couple of times before the lamps actually switch off)
I felt there was trouble starting after the 8 & 3 day gap, on both occasions felt the start-up was not very strong. Also felt that the start was a bit weak, feel a bit of a dip on the central locking beeps (noise), should probably try hitting the horn for a few seconds in a secluded area or try running the wash-wiper.
I'll try to have the battery charges once as suggested by you.

I did finally buy a New Exide Matrix for 8400/-, cheapest quote I got in Pune with 60 months warranty. 30 months being full replacement and in the remaining 30 months, you get a discount starting at 50% of the value.

Default Battery problem with i10

I have a I10 bought in 2008. It has done 30000 kms approx. Over last month the battery is creating trouble. At signals it occasionally stalls. Advaith Hyundai in Bangalore, first just checked the battery and said it can continue. But i had to finally replace the battery as the stalling continued. I am very surprised how the battery could drain out so soon. To best of my knowledge there has been no misuse by the driver in terms of leaving the fan or lights on. Has any other i10 user faced this problem?

What make is the battery?

3 years is actually the average time an OEM battery lasts in most cases. Good you got the battery replaced - seems like it had reached it's end.

The OEM battery for my ANHC started giving me trouble from 12 month onwards only. I had never misused the battery like keeping the lights/ blower on battery for long time etc. Last year while returning to Navi Mumbai from Goa I had a stop over on expressway for a photo session and then the car wont crank at all. I tried for few minutes and then contacted Honda roadside assistance. They said may be your battery is dead and they will contact me shortly. But no sooner I tried cranking the engine cranked. I got a call from them after 5 minutes but I said problem sorted out and everything is ok. I gave my battery for overnight charging and the battery guy said to replace the battery as soon as possible. The OEM battery was Japanese make Fukukowa or something. But I never had any problems with battery after that for another 9-10 months when once battery died again. But, that was because the car was idle for over 4 months as I had gone abroad. But recently it died again all of sudden and I decided to replace it with Tata Green with 3 years warranty for replacement of my old battery.
It costed me 3600/-.
OEM battery lasted little over 2 years with troubles starting 12 month onwards. Tata Green has been serving me well as of now.

Hey thanks. No wonder. I was wondering why the battery lasted so less. It started troubles at just 12 months in use.

My Alto battery lasted for around 33 months.

Whenever I come abraod, my dad cranks up the car for 5 mins every week.

But now the car refuses to start. Is it because of the frequent non usage of the car?

My car had a Standard furukawa Sonic battery which lasted for 5 years and 4 months before it died.

Till its last breath, its cranking power was absolutely 100% and I really couldn't believe when my Battery dealer said me that it died. He added that SF batteries usually will have very good cell condition even after 5 years, but the cell to cell contact gets broken up.

My OEM Exide battery in my Elantra lasted 5.5 years and had cranked till the previous night and found dead in the morn. Replaced another Exide Matrix sealed battery for Rs.6885.

Gentlemen,
I have a question. May all batteries die so suddenly, without giving any prior indication of any sort? I am asking because my OEM battery is still performing well in my more than six and half year old TATA Indigo (GLX model, Petrol/MPFI) car. My car usually runs at least 25-30 KM everyday and still responds to the first twist of the key. I am asking because I am shortly leaving for a week long tour of Jharkhand and Bihar. I plan to start from Calcutta very early in the morning (at around one O'clock) and reach Rajgir by ten in the morning (via NH2 to Barhi, Koderma and Nawada). As I have an upgraded headlight (90W/100 bulbs), may this 5 or 6 hours of night driving put too much strain on the battery? Shall I meet my neighbourhood car electrician and check for the battery voltage, specific gravity and water level?
Regards,
Rahul Biswas

@Rahul: Better get it checked, I was lucky: this was the first time in 5.5 years I got the battery checked. Check the Sp. Gravity and charge the battery holds for every cell and that may give an indication of it's health, before you embark on a long journey to avoid nasty surprises.

Yes, a check up is advised.

A 6 year old battery is probably living on borrowed time. Best to get it checked - sp. gr of all the cells and a load test. Also check the charging system while you are at it, including the alternator belt.

Also, high wattage bulbs puts a higher load on the alt not the battery. It's the alt that supplies electricity (generator) to the entire car and not the battery. The battery is an accumalator and stores the charge via an electro-chemical reaction.

If your alternator and battery are healthy you can drive with high power bulbs at night.

Cheers!
