Last night, while I was coming back home and stopped for a minute to attend a phone call, my 2006 Santro didn't started, the Battery could crank the engine and had to struggle a lot and showed signs of very low voltage.

Couldn't arrange jump start in night so had to get it push started which is a tough and risky option in PS cars.
The OEM Exide Lasted 5 yrs 6 months and now its time to replace it.

Will be visiting the Battery Dealer today evening to see my options
Giving first preference to Exide and next to Amaron based on last 15 years of Exide usage on various needs

Lets see what I decide.

Team BHP is full of battery thread but its very confusing as both brands have mixed experiences and I am not able to find a solid verdict on this.

Please spare a minute and post your recommendation as i would check this thread before leaving for replacement in 2-3 hours.

I appreciate your kind help.

The OE Exide Freedom in my Getz 1.3 lasted 4 years & 8 months.
Replaced it with Bosch Silver last month, got it for 4200 - MRP was ~6300.

As mentioned somewhere in Best Battery Brands thread Bosch batteries are not widely available, but definitely worth the trouble (I nearly spent 2 days and visited >10 battery dealers before I found one!!).

@ghpk
Try getting Bosch Silver; otherwise everyone on t-bhp seems to have good experience with Amaron also.

Thanks mn2363,
Reading all over and asking a few friends I decided on Amaron
so went shopping and purchased Amaron FLO.
Bosch could have been arranged but going places in a car which cannot take another crank if turned off was quite scary.

Amaron Box stated its Silver Inside, So assume its some similar technology as of Bosch ones discussed here.

This battery comes with 24+24 months warranty, I hope don't have to use it .
I got a 08-2011 manufactured one, so its not much life gone from it in shelf.

Amaron FLO Batt was quoted Rs.4000
less old battery (-) Rs.600
Additional discount Rs.100
Total Paid Rs.3300

Ready to Crank

As soon battery was Installed, Car started with a slightest turn of key, and the voltage readings were 12.66 with eng. Off and 14.xx with Engine running.
So hoping this Goes on and On, ding dong, without any major maintenance or performance issue for a couple of years apart from a 5-6 month normal checkup interval.

My bro-in-law drives a Hyundai Accent Viva CRDI.

Its OEM battery “Exide - Freedom” served him for 5 years and 6 months. One fine morning the poor self-started refused to work in need of more battery juice. The ignition lights did show up but the self-starter was unhappy with its share of juice. We decided to comply to its wishes and bid farewell to the old OEM battery that had served us for so long.

The replacement will most probably be a Exide Matrix or Amaron, which is yet to be decided.

I own a Fiat Punto MJD, since Dec 2009. Yet to complete 2 years and I have had no problems with the battery till now. I drive with 80 % A/C and 110% audio system [even when I am in the car and the engine is OFF] of the time.

Since this is my first car, I am ignorant about the battery life. Its runs on a Exide OE Battery. What are the symptoms I should inspect to know its time to replace the battery? Other than the time when the car fails to crank .

My OEM battery finally gave up, after serving me well in my 2005 Tata Indigo (Petrol) car. It was showing signs of age for the last few days and finally refused to start on the day before yesterday. I have decided to go for Exide ATB battery this time. It is being offered to me by a big Exide battery shop in north Calcutta for rupees four thousand and four hundred, after exchange with my old battery.

My Battery in my Linea MJD Emotion Pack Mar 2009 gave up suddenly while travelling to my native.
My car was unable to crank, rest every other electricals were working fine.
At peak load, the battery was not able to withstand.
I changed my OEM battery wih Exide Matrix (5 years warranty, Pro-rata basis) for Rs.7500 after taking my old battery.

I have always got my vehicle serviced from the Auth. Serv Centre only. I guess they have taken good care of the battery atleast.
I drive 30 to 100 Kms every day and that could be a reason too.
When the service had become overdue last month I checked the water level and topped it up... That was the only time I touched it.

The Exide OEM battery in my Palio MJD is still going good after 3.5 years.

But recently from the past month or so the car starter starts and dies in a couple of seconds on the first crank and this happens only on Mondays and I don't take out the car on weekends. However it starts on the second crank but It never had this problem before, does it mean it's time to change the battery?

Looks like. Is it a zero maintenance battery or a regular one?

If it's the regular, ensure all the cells are topped with distilled water and have it charged overnight - that'll prolong the life by some time. If there's no change, it's best you replace the battery.

3.5 years on OEM is decent.

I bought my Opel Corsa 1.4 in 2005 and the OEM Battery (Exide Freedom) lasted for exactly 4 years.

Bought my Baleno on November 23rd 2004. Battery died on 1st October, 2008. My car used to lie idle for days in this period and I did not bother disconnecting the terminals or even cranking and running the engine for 5 minutes during those 'idle' times. Had I done that, my OE battery probably lasted a lot longer.

Cheers,
KK
