IronH4Wk , Typically OEM batteries are built to cost so they last shorter than aftermarket batteries which are relatively better built.

Never gave a problem in 5 & 1/2 years till now.
Deepv , Your OEM battery has served you well for more than 5 years which is more than the average OEM battery life. It is better to replace it since a dead battery could leave you stranded anywhere anytime.
Please contact Exide batmobile service , it's free and these guys would come over to your place and let you know the condition of your battery.

Be very wary about Batmobile guys. They can be absolute vandals. Speaking from more than couple of experiences. You may well end up with other damage... and its not necessarily visible up front. But the guys keep changing and some of them are decent. Anyway, you don't really need them if you can do some basic DIY stuff.

And whatever you do, don't end up buying an Exide battery just because you called the Batmobile.

Thanks for your suggestions .. folks!!
I got the battery checked with an Amaron guy & it does seem dead, to be replaced - they apparently didn't have a ready replacement.

Racoon .. you are right, the person wasn't very soft on pulling out the battery case from the locks around, so I had to remind him to be nice .
Hoping he hadn't already done any damage.

They can be extremely crude. Last time the guy disconnected the battery while engine was running! One of the worst things you can do. Couldn't stop him in time... They are programmed to do damage in a flash. And I even got a lecture about why it's perfectly safe to do so because they do it all the time. Now I stay away from them, like I do with their low quality products.

Amaron seems to be having a shortage of 60AH battery - apparently they are manufacturing more of inverter batteries. Still waiting for one since 3 days.

Wondering should probably go for Exide!!

Does a car stop in the middle of the road owing to a dead battery??

Or did you mean the car didn't start after being switched off, in the middle of the road??

I suppose it should be the second case, would like to know if its otherwise .. Arindam!!

On a different note, what do you really do if its stuck in the middle or on a signal?
Mine went dead last week, luckily in my parking at home.
A neighbors driver suggested push starting it at second gear but didn't work out.

Basically I have given the car to my friend. He told me that he stopped the car and switch off the engine. After 2 min when he tried cranking the engine again it did not start.

It is easily available with Chennai retailers. I got mine 2 weeks back for Rs 5000.
Did you check out Amaron online store?

Hmm .. I got it yesterday.
This vendor is distributor for central part of Hyderabad, so I didn't go for online one.

Back to the thread title.. My car was delivered in November 2009, so the battery in it must at least be 1-2 months older. It's still running strong. Exide.

As of today morning- August 17, 2014, the Exide suddenly gave up.
Cajoled the car with a jump-start and it started just fine. Left it running for close to half-hour to get it charged up.
Then turned off the ignition. Cranked the ol' girl back again. And she purred to life. Repeated. Dead as a door nail.
Time for a new battery....and so in an hour's time an Amaron 95D26L with 3Y warranty was fitted by the local battery guy for Rs 4000/- . Home delivered.
And the Exide has gone to meet its maker. RIP. And thanks for a glorious 5 years of service!
