The OEM battery in my Santro went well for over 5 years and a bit more. Changed it last year to an Exide.

previous Santro Exide OEM lasted for five years/55000 km. Baleno Exide OEM is 2 years 11 months and going strong. I once drained the battery, within three months of purchase of the car, as I had left the boot open for two days in the garage. It was jump started, then I drove it for around 30 kms, did not need external charge.

That would probably qualify for a Guinness record!
Could you give a few pointers to what, if anything, you did to help it last that long?
In fact most of the complaints of premature failure were about Exide batteries.

Nothing special since it was a maintenance free !

1. Always idled the car for 1 min on the morning start.

2. Never ran ICE when the engine was not running.

3. Periodic service for the car(not for the battery specifically).

4. Kept the terminals free from rust.

5. Always switched off all the lights/ICE before cranking.

And, bought a new Exide with 5 years warranty.

My earlier two Maruti Omni vehicles (Dec 1995 & July 2000) had factory fitted Exide batteries that lasted for more than 4 years each.

Hyundai Santro Xing XG (Feb 05) has a factory fitted Exide maintenance free battery which is three and a half years old as of today and is still going strong.

Current Maruti Alto LXi (May 08) which is 3 months old has an Exide maintenance free battery!
