Default silencer issue!

i have a M800,1999 model and for past few weeks i have been noticing a rough noise from under the car.i got it checked and was informed there were holes on the silencer and told either to seal it through welding or replace it.
they told me that i could replace it and when i planned to, i was told that the MPFI engined silencer was only available as the carburetor version was out of stock!!
is there any difference between my model and an MPFI M800 silencer and can it be fitted in my car??
they said it would cost 3000 instead of 1500 if it were for a carburetor version!

I do not know about the MPFI/carb thingy, but i feel your dealer is conning you, only difference i can think of is the cat con which was there in the carb models itself.

anyway a punctured silencer is like a free flow exhaust, enjoy the sound.

i dont think there is a diff between the two, if its stainless steel go for it or buy from outside and ask dealer to install it, stainless steel is always better.

in few months time i plan to sell the M800 and upgrade to a swift.thats why i never bothered or jumped into the conclusion of gettin a new silencer but if its necessary then im out of options.
by the way are the new M800 fitted with stainless steel silencers??if not why double the amount as compared to the older generation M800??

The dealer is taking you for a nice ride. Get a second opinion from any other mechanic (a good trustworthy one and not a dealer).

There's no damage whatsoever to the engine with a "holed" silencer so dont panic.

if you are not gonna keep the car for long and the extent of damage is less, u might as well get it welded for the time being. or else buy silencer from outside. had you been in Bangalore, i would have taken you straight to JC road!

u can get a indian (local)made silencer for as low as 300-400rs in bombay.. i bet u must be getting the same in your area too.. go get it and give it to your dealer and tell him to fix it, or u can approach a local mechanic who can do this job for another 100-200rs.it will hardly take 1/2 hour for him to do it. i had done it for my opel astra and it was really good lasted me for 30000kms! tkc

Slight variation can happen, ie FE due to change in back pressure, but very lil.
