Well, the tendency is to change everything once there is a minor error, its like they are not bothered to find the error.

On the other hand, I am stuck with mechanics who do want to change thing, like my clutch plate was after his life for 6 months to change it but he would insist "Kyon change karwa rahe ho, abhi chalega. Jyada paisa aa gaya hai to waise hi de do". Finally literally held him from collar and got it changed. Same way for my Carb, was running after with for 18 months to open in completely and then clean it. He again has the same thing to say, but he did clean it by putting thinner in it coyuple of times. But couple of days back he finally opened it to change diaphragm so he finally cleaned it.

Hi everyone. I have a similar problem on my Carb type '96 esteem. I am at the edge of replacing the car for the major short comings of A.C. Rather than selling off esteem, i wish to keep it by upgrading the whole AC system which normally never stays in working condition every 5-6months. Anyone out there who has any idea/advice about upgrading/modifying the AC system in Esteem car? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

My AC has gone again, and now I want to fix it permanently as I have no plans to sell off my car. This time Maruti estimate is 45K for complete AC kit change. And locally a place called Autocool in east of kailash says 17k for the same. Way too much difference, I am in dilemma what to do.

Please suggest what is best way to go to fix it permanently.

Waiting replies from the gurus.

The price is way too much, MASS does not involve in repairing or rectifying any component of the AC, they delegate the work to subros & they earn a cool 30% through this. Please note sadly there is no warranty on the work subros does.

Get in touch with the following:
Subros Limited
World Trade Centre, LGF, Barakhamba Lane
New Delhi - 110001
Tel.: (011)-23414946-49
Fax: (011)-23414945
dmukharjee@subros.com

Has your car been through any accident?

The compressor & condensor comes to around 17k MAX. Don't get any bill from subros to avoid taxes, it does not make a difference since they don't provide any warranty on the compressor, of course they provide warranty on their installation.

Great. I was not knowing Subros does the AC fixing directly. I shall get in touch with them, and lets see.

Mr. Bean,

I contacted Subros, and one person at subros has recommened a place in Lajpat Nagar to get it fixed (Kooldays airconditioning) and another person from Subros told me to take it to Hemkunt station Lodhi Road, which is a MASS. I am unable to take a decision, where to take it.

What do you recommend?

udit, bro you can fine a genuine brand new subros compressor at kashmiri gate, maximum for Rs. 10,000, i am planning to get one for my Zen, it is costing me around Rs 7,000.. Fitting you can get done outside..in a max of Rs 12-14k, your a/c will be like new (if nothing else is wrong).

I bought the subros genuine condenser for Rs 1800 from kashmiri gate..better try there first from any where else..
rest is upto you.

Also, when you get your compressor serviced/repaired if you are running R12 move over to the newer refrigerants. Will cost maybe 1000 more!

Yes, I will be change it from R12 to the newer version of gas. But, should I go to Hemkunt or Kooldays?

Thoughts please.

Even MASS gets it done from subros when issues comes up relating to compressor, I would say take the first option (kooldays).
Moreover subros gives warranty on their installation but not on the parts..

One must accept that a MASS is essentially a car workshop who also do air-conditioning. An AC specialist should be expected to do a better job.

Even for alignment / balancing I find the tyre shops far more competent (also cheaper!).

All get their spares from Subros so should not matter.

I have the same issue on my esteem but I have some info to share. The compressor costs Rs/- 4500 (inquired at Lajpat Nagar and in Gurgaon) in the open market. Hence if the blower and the condensor are fine the cost of complete repair should be around 6000.

Hi Rajnish, would you happen to know where and who in Gurgaon can supply me with a brand new Subros R12 compressor for my 99 Esteem, would be obliged on your help....cheers !!

Very unlikely! You have to look out in Kashmere Gate.

PS: Why don't you change the system to R134a. Flush the system, In addition, you just have to change the receiver/dryer plus compressor.
