Default Palio 1.2 NV Sport starting problem

Hi,

Car: FIAT Palio 1.2 NV
Make: Apr 2005

guys,

I am facing a weird problem in my 3 years old Palio 1.2 NV. It does not start at times when I crank the engine. This happens randomly at anytime. It happened when:

1. Car was parked for 2 days
2. Car has run 50-80 KM for an hr. and stopped the engine for 20 min
3. If I stop at any signal and then try to crank the engine.

IIn 2-3 attempts I am able to crank the engine. This does not happen everytime but randomly at times. So I can not predict when can it happen. I have shown this at 3rd service to BU Bhandari and they did not experience this.

Could you guys please let me know probable problems?

Neo, does it happen at morning cold starts or during the drive?

Sometimes, when you are driving and the car gets stopped abruptly like when car is moving dead slow in 2nd gear and engine stops (without you switching off the ignition) , it takes 2 - 3 cranks to start the car.
But, if you switch off the ignition & then switch on and start, the engine will start in the first crank itself.

If this is what you are experiencing, it is normal and nothing to worry about.

I faced this issue sometime ago. Turned out to be a faulty starter motor/self start. Got it overhauled and its been fine since. Had the same problem where it wouldnt work randomly like when the engine stalled in the middle of a busy junction

but the symptoms i faced was that the engine would not even turn

From past 2 months even I have faced the same issue couple of times on my 2004 1.2 NV Sport thought its not frequent.

My battery is now 4 years old and I'm really scared whether this is a symptom of age.

ask the dealer to get the 'self' cleaned and serviced by TVS Lucas service engineer. I had the same problem and TVS guys took care of it (my car is stillunder warranty).

No Finney, it happens randomly. Say I switch off the engine at some place.. then whenever I try to crank after sometime lets say 10 min to few hours, the engine would not crank.. But you can not predict when it will happen..
