Default Oil Info

I was looking for an engine oil for my bike and car. I approached a dealer for synthetic oil for pulsar 220 (20W50) and pleasure (10W30). I was told by the distributor that I need to try the 0W40 oil for my pleasure bike as that is the best available oil Can you tell me what is the meaning of the numbers mentioned in the oil and whether it is really good to go for 0W40 oil for Hero Honda Pleasure and Pulsar 220.

The main advantage as informed by the distributor for 0W40 oil is that the oil will prevent friction of engine part due to its 0 friction make. This is a full synthetic Oil made in Taiwan from Petronas. Please suggest.
