Default OWS 15W40 vs Castrol Magnatec - Which is Better

Friends,

I want to know which oil is better?

OWS 15W40 is Mineral Based with extended oil changing intervals up to 90,000 km:

OWS - Redefining Auto Servicing

Castrol Magnetec is 10W40, but Semi-Synthetic. Cost 50% less than OWS.

Anybody have experience with OWS 15W40

I need if for my TCIC Safari, still now I am using Mobil 1 Delvac MX and looking for a change.

I don't believe in the "NVH feeling" test of engine oils.
UOA ie Used Oil analysis is what is right.
A good chemical lab that does UOA would analyse the drained oil for various chemicals and tiny metallic particles from internals like main bearing, etc. This done at similar intervals on the same engine (after proper flushing) with the two oils can give you the verdict on which one is better.

This said, Castrol Magnatec is intended for petrol and is API-CF rated for diesels at best.
The OWS15W40 Super High Performance Diesel Oil is an API-CH4 rated and is quite superior to the Magnatec.

PS:Jeniffer, you don't have to start every thread in the Shifting gears section.
This could be in the Technical section.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion Nitrous. Is it true that OWS 15W40 is also Semi-Synthetic? Will it work better on a TCIC Safari?

Offtopic: I went to speedworks and bought OWS 360 & 210 for a test(???). They know your name very well(and I got 5% discount because of you!!!). Thanks Man.

An API-CH4 from OWS is God send even if its semi-synthetic.
How much are they quoting for the 8 litres that your Safari takes?

OWS 10W40
This is their "semi synth" oil - its hydro-cracked , your link is mineral , not sure if THIS is good for you , but i have faith in OWS , all their products rock.

By making OWS your choice, you are different too and together we make the statement to the world that it still makes sense to pay for something that works.
