Hi People

Recently i went to the Hyundai *** and over there i came to know that prices of Diesel and Petrol Engine compressor are different. Diesel Engine A/C compressor are on the higher side because they use different technology.

I would appreciate, if our experts could clarify the same.

Thanks

Amit

Hi

Thanks GTO for correcting me, will take care of spellings in future.

Amit

they are similar to petrol and diesel engines, IMO One is spark ignition and the other is Compression Ignition to begin with!

I am pretty sure A/C compressors are different for petrol and diesel engines as their RPM of the engine is different.

Amit

Yeah, its the RPM that is different.

Can you elaborate what you'd like to know?

HI

Is there different kind of technology used within the A/C compressor of petrol or Diesel Engine?

No Amit, both petrol and diesel engined compressor are similar in technology!

Hi

Headers, the reason i insist there is a difference because the service guy in Hyundai told me that two are different. Even for a sec if we ignore his statement, then the idiling RPM of both the engines are different. Petrol is 850-900 where as diesel is 650-700.
So if we fit a petrol engine A/C compressor into a diesel engine, it won't work at all!!!

amit

Sorry Amit, he is talking BS.

There is something called as a pulley mechanism that is used to drive the compressor and that size can be varied to suit the engine rpm.

To cut a long story short - One can remove the AC of a petrol Car and fix it onto a Diesel Car and vice versa provided the car is able to withstand the additional engine load etc.

Cheers Headers, the above explaination makes sense. Perhaps this was a two man conversation, but the doubts are cleared.

Thanks Buddy
