Default SX4 - cabin air filter, home made solution

I was reading a newspaper and the news was SPM and RSPM count is too high in my city. So to reduce air pollution in my SX4, I am thinking of fitting in-cabin airfilter.

Look at this tread: SX4 cabin filter 07/08 - SX4 Forums
They discuss a way of making a cabin filter for SX4, I checked my SX4 and it does have a place to put a filter which is behind gloves box and closed by a snap fit cover. Now how to construct such a filter, I can try getting airfilter of different cars and see which one is same/bigger size. Then a can make a aluminium/plastic frame and glue this filter on it. Or I can try an airconditioner filter. What kind of filters are availabe in the market.

Well any suggestion is welcome.

Once you have identified that your SX4 does not have an arrangement similar to the one in the pictures figure out a different approach.I see the possibility of fitting an A/C filter to be the eaziest.Check the blower motor and look for the air intake in the end blower .Try to make a suitable frame and a suitable filter over the frame and get it to stick snugly using any fast curing adhesive. Also check the filter material for the following.
  1. It does not crumble when wet.
  2. it does not get mildews and other possibalities for any organic growth.
  3. It is easily washable and replacable.
  4. It will not compromise the airflow in to your duct from the suction side.
The most suitable material i can see from all the above points is Rayon.Rayon or rayon based fabrics are easily available and can be used perfectly for this application.
Lets see if this can give you some ideas to start working.

Superb suggestion. Either that or retrofit one from a car that has one inbuilt from the factory itself. That way, you are assured a ready supply of replacement filters.
