overtaking I was doing 90+ and had to step on the gas to increase
speed. .
I had a similar issue with my Accent whenever I crossed 100mph on a straight stretch of good road. Eventually, turned out to be the wind playing around by right side rear-view mirror. I folded it in and the sound disappeared.

I'm not saying this could be what you're hearing on your Scripio. But, you can check whether it's a wind related issue to rule-out silly items.

Badboy: you hit the nail on the head. It is more pronounced when near the divider, but is also clearly audible in the middle of the road. It is not whhssszzzz kinda thingy but more kinda whhhrrrrnnng.....

The Green Storm was cleaned only a week before..

It is not as if I'm doing those speeds in the last few days. This wasn't noticed earlier. I drive with both the ORVM's open. Always do. The wind has peculiar "सांय सांय" sound. It is not that.

All the more reason to suspect incorrect fitment. Try taking it out and re-fitting everything back properly.

GD: I am sure with you experience you're not talking about the signature whistle of the turbo. I get it all the time, more pronounced when I cross 90 and eases off when you ease off the accelerator.

Your problem sounds more like a leak in the intake or incorrect fitting of the Green Storm.

Default Update

Well it is a DIY for me, where it is meticulously removed and reassembled with as much care. But I again rechecked after reading your posts. No issues with the filter unit.

This is to report a small experiment that I did while returning from
work. I parked the Bull on the side and with the window rolled down
stepped on the gas in neutral and took the RPM to 2100. No whistles.
Then I raised it to 2500 and still no whistle. That whistle came when
I touched 3000 and remained so as long as it was between 2800 - 3000.
The moment it fell below, no whistles.

And also no smoke at that RPM..Now any guesses, what it is?

gd, this sounds like the turbo whistle.
When stationary, the load on the engine is much lower so the turbo whistle will start at a considerably higher engine rpm.
While moving the turbo will reach that speed at a much lower engine rpm.
Turbo speed depends on engine load and not engine rpm.

This is a normal phenomenon. Its simply 'acoustics'. Even the engine sound would be higher while driving along the divider. I am not sure off the right word but the sound reverberates from the divider.

Secondly, since you got the sound in stationary vehicle as well, this means that its no wind/air playing tricks, but something mechanical for sure.

If its whrrr, could be some bearing too. If it was turbo whistle, you would have noticed it earlier

I heard whistling sound in my Petrol Innova 2 years back when it had clocked around 14000km near Chitradurga 4 lane NH4 when speeds above 90kmph. We tested it many ways Ac on / Off and window rolled down and rolled up fully but it didn't make any differance.

We felt its because of possible gap in door and body of Innova, teared beeding, leak/ in Air went or some gape there or may be cracked glass??

But its something to do with some gap where air is passed.

From our next trip we never faced that issue and I didn't ask Toyota about it because it happened around Chitradurga (may be because of heavy wind) and when there is almost ZERO traffic.

Regards,

Ravi.

Default Similar issue

I had similar issue in my Tata Safari (TCIC Engine) earlier. This used to happen only at 90+ KMs or when I press the accelarator very hard.
It turned out that the InterCooler Pipe (Rubber Pipe Join) was leaking when Accelerator was pressed hard and Tightening the Rubber Hose Clamp Solved the Problem.
So Try Tightening all the Clamps of Rubber Hoses. May be it will solve the issue.

Default Bull whistling problem - mystery solved

Yesterday Bull was taken to the vet to identify the whistling problem.
I had a bit of suspicion as to what it could be but wasn't too sure
and didn't want to take any chance as well. Dr. Rakesh first looked
under the hood at 3K RPM and didn't find any sound, but could hear it
though.

Then he took a walk to the back of the Bull and found the source. It
was a classic case of "खोदा पहाड़ निकली चुहिया". The after market
silencer extension that I had put has a mesh inside that had gotten
loose and was producing the whistling sound at high RPMs. The mesh was
removed and peace of mind restored..

And also servicing is some couple of thousands kms away, I had a
pre-check done for the J'mer trip and got the Bull washed and greased.
HAPPY..:-)

So it a wind problem after all. Or should I say exhaust gas problem.
