110%, because in delhi one has to stop much more on redlights and in traffic jams, then moving in his car!
on highways, it gives about 18-19kmpl with 100% AC and speeds in range of 90-100kmph.

At what speeds do you change the gears ? 12-13kmpl sounds real good with 100% AC in city traffic.
Although mine is a WagonR but i guess the gear ratios are quite similar.. maybe you can help me get better FE out of my car... i am really not satisfied with the 11 kmpl i am getting with 70% AC these days. (Being a maruti suzuki it should actually give more than a santro)

dont hae a tachometer, so i change according to speedo:
2nd at 15~20kmph
3rd at 25~30kmph
4th at 45~50kmph
5th at >60kmph

Well my Palio runs close to 250 kms on fuel (speed) worth 1000 rs with ac on 70% of the time and 100% city traffic!

dceite : I think wagonR is slightly better than santro in the FE department. u SHUD get more than 11kmpl in city with a/c. Try shifting to 5th around 50ish speed and keep the speed between 50-60kmph this shud better ur FE figures

okay.
i doesnot follows speeds and all for changing gears.
since santro to doesnot have tacho, i'll try to give you some speed figures at which i changes gear, but i really never ever bothered to look at the speedo while driving!

2nd at 10~15kmph
3rd at 30~35kmph
4th at 45~50kmph
5th at 45~50kmph

yes!, keep same speed as in 4th and then shift to 5th, no need to increase speed just to get into 5th!

santros and wagonRs can very well keep cruising in 5th at about 50kmph all day with AC!

just some additional tips:
never accelarate and brake in a hurry, try to acclimatise wit the traffic around you and drive accordingly.

try to keep yourself in 5th gear max. no need to downshift to 4th or 3rd to gather speed. just press acc. pedal gradually and it'll gain speed gradually!

after sometime, you'll be enjoying that chore of keeping sustained 50kmph!
believe me, keeping a sustained 50-55kmph in 5th gear is much more difficult than hitting 100kmph in 3rd gear!

Angry Re: santro xing xp 9 kmpl ..help

sorry reviving an old thread. Before I wanted to post, I wanted to check teambhp about Santro's mileage. This thread had the title which I wanted to give.

I got my 2003 Santro serviced - Engine oil, other oils and filter, changed. Got Turanza boots. The car drives like butter - but the mileage is only 9! This is in Chennai city - I cross 2 toll gates and 2 big signals in 10 km span. Out of this 5 Kms is in cramped traffic.

I'm not the best of drivers but I don't drive on clutch, I use proper gears, and don't break much, and on comparitively open roads do only 50 - 60 Kmph.

Got it checked at V3 Hyundai. They say the car is perfect and mileage of 9 is normal.

Do I have any options to increase efficiency?

You can increase efficiency by:
1. Get a PROPER machine de-carb done (from the dealership). Both on the engine & intake manifold. You will be surprised with the amount of gunk that can build up on the intake valves & intake manifold, thanks to the crankcase ventilation system & intake charge reversion.
2. Get synthetic oil (5w-40) or, at least thinner (10w -30) mineral oil.
3. Get your clutch checked. You could be over-revving (beyond what is necessary) to get the car moving if you have a worn-out clutch.
4. Change the gear-oil in the gearbox. It can be surprisingly effective (from personal experience). You do get synthetic gearbox oil (75w-90) from Hyundai dealerships. It's expensive though.
5. Use less A/C.
6. Put more air in your tyres (10% more than recommended is good).
7. Remove any unnecessary weight from your car. I've seen people carry lots of weight in the boot like old newspapers (to be sold to the raddiwala), extra oil, heavy toolboxes, extra stepney etc. In short, if you don't need it on a regular city commute, DON'T lug it around!
8. Check if the gas station attendant closes the fuel cap tightly after a fillup. Sometimes they don't do that & petrol evaporates FAST at ambient temperature!

Couple of options you can try:
1) Change the fuelling station.
2) Try System G during refulleing.
3) Check the tyre pressure are correct.
4) If possible check whether you get the same efficiency at a different commute time or route.

I don't know if people agree with this but Hyundai's are never known for their average - at least the petrol engines. We've had the Santro Xing XG since 2003 and it consistently gives an average of 10-12 in the city (on petrol), no matter how well driven! The rather new i20 petrol in our stable is no hero either.

Word of advice - if you live in a town where alternate fuel (CNG) is easily available, convert your Santro to CNG and you'll immediately start seeing savings. On CNG our Santro runs at ~ 2 - 2.5 Rs/km with the A/C on most of the times. The Santro has a very torquey machine, so the lag due to CNG is also very minimal. All-in-all its a win-a-win!

My mom's Santro Eco LPG and petrol gives around 9kmpl as well. I am stumped. It is a 2009 model always serviced at the dealer.Cleaning air filter helped a bit but the dealer says the car is perfect. Do tell me if you were able to increase your mileage.

I never get more than 10 kmpl in my Spark.
Only on long drives on National Highways with maintaining 70-80 I get 14-15kmpl.
90% of my driving is in the maddening traffic of mumbai with 100% AC.
I rev the car only on open stretches.
This is how I shift gears :
2nd- 10kmph(normal) - 15kmph(revving)
3rd- 30kmph(normal) - 65kmph ( revving)
4th- 45kmph(normal) - 110 kmph (revving)
5th- 55kmph(normal) - Lol

I have done engine de-carb at the a.s.s
My car takes in 43 litres and on an average I drive 440-450kms on a full tank.
Only once I managed 650 kms on a single tank because 90% of it was on empty highways.
