What say, guys? Which one should be best for the Swift DDiS after Delvac? Or gurus will suggest something else?
Go for the Shell Helix HX6, eyes closed. Its the only oil I trust to put in my Verna other than the Delvac. Very good for protection and longevity.

Personally, I'd ask you to avoid any Mak oil (some bad experiences with our previous vehicles). AFAIK, Castrol GTD is a CF oil, and you should stick to at least CH grade with modern common-rail engines. No idea about the Gulf Max TD though.

How can you vouch that MAK is a bad brand just because you had a bad experience in your vehicle? I guess using the forum for demeaning a Brand like MAK (Fortune 500 BPCL company brand) which of date has the best Group II refinery in India, should be avoided dear sir! You will be happy to know that even major private lubricant brands in India purchases base oils from the MAK refinery for making their products!

Just now checked the Shell India website and found that HX6 is CH Grade 15W40.
Shell HX6 Engine Oil

Can Punekars please suggest Mobil Oil Dealers in Pune? I cannot source the Mobil Oil in Solapur so thinking of buying from Pune when I visit there.
Thanks in advance.

Whoa! Easy tiger! To share opinions is one of the basic objectives of a public forum. Wanderer asked for other users' opinions on his choices, and I gave mine. As a disclaimer, I even added "personally" to signify it was my opinion, and no one else's.

I have truly had some bad experiences with Mak, in my Pulsar and the family's M800. This was around 2004, and the company was heavily marketing the brand. This was in no way meant to demean your Fortune 500 BPCL company!

Dude, save me the industrial jargon. I might not work in petrochemicals, but I have enough years in dealing with the industry to know how logistics work. Base oil is not some technological revolution. Its the 1-2pct remnant of a crude-oil barrel after the rest is taken out to make gasoline and other hydrocarbons. Of course, it can be different groups based on their content of saturate, sulfur and their viscosity index.

Lubricant manufacturers buy base oil from petroleum companies and add specific chemical additives to make so called "engine oil". As for your great claim that everyone "chooses" to buy base oil from BPCL, the reason is financial, not technological. Its common knowledge that domestic petroleum manufacturers offer discounts and bulk deals on base oil to save competition from imports. I quote from the 2013 ICIS report on base oils:

"As seen throughout the final quarter of 2012, several domestic India and Chinese refiners have reduced the prices of domestically produced cargoes to compete with imported cargoes. This has led to an increase in local buyers preferring to buy cargoes from the domestic market as shipping times are shorter and there is flexibility to buy smaller tonnages on a need-to basis. This has been especially seen in the Indian market. This situation, where domestic cargoes are priced competitively to imported cargoes in the India market, is expected to continue in 2013."

I suggest you do what the forum expects you to do. You're a lubrication consultant, and obviously an ex-BPCL employee who (I presume) has made some contribution to their lubes R&D. Please enlighten us with your knowledge and tell wanderer what's the best among his choices. Save giving others flak.

Ive used Elf Performance 3D which is a CI4 oil and is priced well. Mobil delvac is not as easily available in small cities and this makes a very good VFM alternative

Anyways, earlier my MASS used to have Mobil Delvac but for the last few years I've only been seeing Servo Pride. I simply hate this oil as I find my car becoming clattery and crude within 1000 kms of oil change. This time they have agreed to use the oil that I'll provide.

Now, I'm myself not able to find Delvac in the open market. So, I've shortlisted the following:

You can try Raka Oil, but they are in Chinchwad, not Pune city:

http://www.rakaoil.com/

Another option is Aru Traders at Paud Phata on Karve Road. You can find their contact details on the JustDial directory website.

Whichever you choose, please call to check the availability of the oil that you want and its price, before you actually go there.

Cheers,
Vikram

Update on the oil change on my Swift VDI (40K).

Was lookout for Shell HX6, but not available with dealers in my native mysore. Instead, a nearby friendly dealer suggested Petronas Urania CH4 15W40 oil, rating it above if not equal to HX6.

Costs:
---------

3L can => 760 rs
Purolator Filer=> 130 rs

Although, 3.1 ltrs is suggested, looks like 3 should be fine as my engine does not look like it was consuming much oil earlier as well. Experts can clarify this please ?

Initial response after around 50kms of driving is a wee bit reduced engine noise and increased smoothness.

After much confusion, finally bought Mobil Delvac MX for my Scorpio Crde. This is the first time I am switching to an oil other than the OE Mahindra Maximile. Price Rs.1900 for 7ltrs.

I have purchased OWS 15W40 for my Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI. I stick to 5000 km service interval. Hope it will work well. Currently I am using Delvac Mx 15W40.

Changed my Swift VDI oil as part of the 5k oil change. This time put in Petronas Urania CH4 15W40. Initial feedback is a bit heavier than Petronas Mach 5. The mach 5 was good if you have a habit to max out your speedo :-) This one is not that smooth in the higher band.

Cost 780 rs for a 3L can. Purolator filter 130 bucks.

The feedback from the engine using this oil and after 40k service is awesome. I don't know how much to credit the oil for, but the swift in ghats with this oil was just superb. Will wholeheartedly recommend this oil.
