After months of analysis I decided to go with Hyundai i10 and took a 1.2 Sportz on 5 Feb 09. Its 4 months now with one service done at 1500kms. Currently heading towards 3900kms.

Car has been great so far except that couldn't tap the required power when desired and couldn't get a good mileage...

One of the major factors in going for i10 was the possibility of getting atleast 15kmpl in City. In the last 4 months I have been getting about 12 kmpl only. I understand it all depends on driving style, but never thought mine to be this bad. i.e, I used to get about 11 with my old 1.6 Ikon.

Recently when I went to Kun showroom saw an advertisement about some customer getting 41.5Kmpl in his i10. Wondered how he managed to get that with the same machine...

I commute about 20Kms to office daily with pretty moderate traffic. Weekends would do about 200Kms in City. I always ensure that engine is never revved up more than 2000rpm - 2500pm. Rarely it does go when I really try to squeeze thru traffic. I have been using Shell fuels. I started with Super Unleaded for couple of tanks then switched to normal and today switching back to Super Unleaded to see if that gives any better.
I use 100% AC and mostly its in recycle mode and fan speed at 1 or 2. If its hot noon, then at about 3 or 4.
If its a free road i rest my left foot on floor, but if its traffic then would rest it on clutch pedal without engaging it.
I have the tyre pressures at the recommended 30psi.

Wondering how I can squeeze max kms per ltr. Any practical suggestions are welcome.

Also would like advice on couple of other things as well.
1. I find my headlights not bright enough. Any suggestions to have it modified to get more brightness.
2. I am thinking to add fog lamps. Dealer quoted 3500/. But in local car decor shop saw one for 900/. I had no clue in terms of what brands to look for what watts to look for while exploring.

Am in Hyderabad and if any suggestions on car decor shop, most welcome.

41. i am doubting even 14 with that car. i have one and its auto and i get around 6 to 8, sometimes i think i should have bought a v6 instead. it must be the 1.1 liter ad that you must have seen.

i get anywhere between 13 to 15 kmpl with 50% AC. Normal fuel .
the i10 manual reads 33psi for front and rear wheels with normal load (not more the 3 people).

Why not? I think 41 is possible. Only if it is pushed/pulled for 25kms of the 41km journey will you achieve that. All hogwash!

To obtain good mileage:
1. Don't rev hard.
2. Change gears appropriately.
3. Don't ride the clutch.
4. Maintain proper tyre psi (33psi as per their manual).
5. Use OEM tyres (as if!)
6. Regular Oil changes.
7. Regular cleaning of fuel injectors, fuel pumps, air filters.
8. Switch off engine at traffic signals, avoid unnecessary idling.

I have a 1.1 era and I barely get 15 with 0% AC. So 12 with 100% AC isn't so bad, I guess. Hopefully, it'll improve after the second service.

Even I find the headlights not bright enough -- when I checked for fog lamps at my local car shop, he said installation in i10 is too much of a problem, and should be done at the dealer only.

lol. i am planning to change the oil at 5k even though hyundai mentions it at 10k. we dont even have gear changes or clutches in out cars mate. what to do about that. i am tired now and only drive this car on weekends. weekdays both honda citys do a job of giving about 15kms to a liter. i guesss thats good now. one is auto and one is manual...

Please don't get too influenced by the claim of 40+ kpl, nor should you place too much importance on the same. It is marketing rubbish and, I can assure you, impossible to get those kind of numbers under a regular driving scenario.

You've bought one of the best hatchbacks on our roads today. Enjoy it to the fullest! 12 kpl is decent if your daily drive includes typical metro traffic.

There is possibility of slightly wrong settings, in the second service they should iron it out. Efficiency will also improve from 5k km onwards as everything should have set in nicely. I am actually surprised at your 1.6 ikon - 11 kmpl? A relatives ikon in city driving never gave him more than 9 and that too with 50% AC.

I second GTO - you have a nice car, enjoy it.

For i10 1.2, if you are getting 12 KMPL in city, you have every reason to cheer.

1.2 is not that known for good FE compare to 1.1.

41 is practically impossible in the 1.2 i10.

This must be funny but a friend's i10 (1.1) gave a mileage of 11.5 on highway with AC on all the time.

Never dream of a petrol car giving you such ridiculous figures. For that matter, any car. These days even bikes aren't giving you those figures.They are just marketing gimmicks to rope in more i10 buyers.

Expectations is the key here. Never expect more than 14kmpl in city and 17-18kmpl on highways. If you get more, then consider yourself lucky.

My 6 month old i10 Kappa done only 2300kms very loyally clocks 11.5KMPL in the city.

I will be a wildly ecstatic guy if those figures jump to 14kmpl in city.

Find a long downhill section, shift into neutral and let the car roll down.

I dont know how much sense I make. A friend's i10 that was returning him 10KMPL.

I reset the ECU and and now it returns 15-17 on an average.

I wish you had grilled them about it and had asked them to demonstrate the same so that every Hyundai customer could benefit and India could save millions in foreign exchange.

As others said, it is one of those catchy marketing stunts these car companies try to pull from time to time.

You are right. Such kind of promo's are highly misleading and should not be trusted at all.
