Default Does Teflon Coating Really Help?

Hi All,
Just had a confusion and wanted people's opinion on Teflon Coating.

I have a Black coloured Petra EL and it looks dirty even If I clean it almost everyday.
My Questions are
1. Will Teflon coating prevent it from getting dirty?
2. Will it be easier to clean?
3. How much does it cost to do it in Bangalore.
4. Some reputed names in Bangalore, who works in genuine teflon coating?
5.Is it a myth that small scratches goes after teflon coating or its true?

Please Try to answer any of these if you have gone thru this process.

Thanks
Bhishma Arya

LOL, i share your misery. I have a black indica and used to face the same problem. Well after teflon coating the car got a new shine and the small scratches vanished. But there six months thing is nonsense, ususally the effects are visible for 3 months at most.
As for getting dirty, well dont know about that and same about the cleaning part. It costs 3500 for indica, in your case it should be about 5000.
As for reputer dealers, there is 3M on old madras road and you can also go to pit stop/car shingar like places. I got it done from Concorde(Tata Workshop).

Do you mean to say that it will last only for 3 months? If that's the case, do you really recommend to go for it

I just got Teflon coating done a few days back in Mumbai for my Black New Honda City..it surely improves the shine of the vehicle.
I got it done from Auto N Care, which is a good company..I got a deal for both Teflon Coating(with one free coating service after 6 months),and Under Body Anti-Rust Sealant coating, everything together for Rs5000,which is a good price. They have tied up with a US company, and specialise ONLY in car care services.
The under body sealant coating comes with a 5 years warranty, and they told me teflon should be repeated every 2 years to keep the shine as good as new.

get a good coat of Turtle Wax done by yourself. do it once a month. Will set you back by Rs 500 to Rs. 1000, and will be much better than the so called 'Teflon' coating.

Underbody coating should be a good thing to do ... but 800 and other models lasted so well without these that I wonder if thisi s not a markting gimmick.

If you stay in a dry place then i recommend, if it rains frequently then only if you are planning to spend 3000 every three months. as another poster pointed out, turtle wax every month may be a better and cheaper option

No it wont. Teflon coating will just remove a few minor scratches from your body and give a good glossy/shiny effect to the paint. The effect will just last for a month or so.

2. Will it be easier to clean?
As long as the teflon coat remains on the car, it will be easy to wipe of the dust sine the body surface is very smooth.

Rudra, this is for you.

No. It is a fact. But the fact is also that small scratches will go if you do any normal machine polishing with a mild rubbing compound.

Conclusion : Dont go in for Teflon Coating. Go for machine-polishing. Will cost less than half of Teflon coating. The remaining money you could spend on buying polishes and regularly polishng the car on ur own. Go for Turtle Wax COlor Magic. You might get one specifically for black. Even Eagle One is good.

If its an Indian product, dont even think about it. Its all crap.

Thanks V12 , Thats what I was looking for, Another option. You gave one, actually I am also not satisfied by Teflon coating which my friend had done on his car, and was thought Rs4500 is too much for that.

After a long delay, 2 weeks back i tried waxing my car. It took 4 hours. Nothing less. But the end result was really really good. The surface gets really smooth and shiny. You can buy all these wax stuff and try it out urself if ur ready spend that much amount of time every month or two.

Lazy?? Then there is this car'r'us on mission road. Ajmat recomended this. Been there twice for car washing. Leave your car there on one of the working day, should cost you 1000rs. Should last 2,3 months. Never tried it tough.

In any case, i dont think they will improve cleaning the dirt. Only the loose dust particles can be wipped of easily.

v12, I'll never bother to check this. I just don't believe in this kinda stuff. Nothing comes close to good wax polish.

I agree with the other junta. Teflon coating sounds like a rip-off to me. They charge an arm and a leg for something that'll last 3 months tops.

Net-net, nothing like wax polish and some elbow grease on a tepid Sunday afternoon ...

I tried waxing once, but I feel that after few days of waxing, it works the other way round. i.e. the dust starts sticking to it rather than slipping away!

Is there anything I am doing wrong?

Note: I am using regular turtle wax (green color) as per the instructions given on the box.

Hi All,

I'm a paint technologist.

The essential difference between a Teflon coating and a wax polish is that Teflon coating will make your paint last longer. Wax polish, when applied is done so by scrubbing/rubbing, and it essentially takes off a micro layer of the paint and therefore makes it shinier. Teflon coating, as the name implies, adds another layer of surface coating on your car.

How do you shine a Teflon Coating when it is dulled down? Now that is something I dont know!

Let me ask and get back!
