Default Modifying the final drive ratio in Getz prime 1.3

I find the 2nd gear of my Getz 1.3 very pathetic for city driving. If the RPM falls to 1000-1200, in 2nd gear the vehicle picks up very slowly. Once beyond 1400-1500 rpm only then it accelerates well. So I have to often shift to 1st gear.

I guess changing only 2nd gear ratio is not possible unless entire gear box is changed. AFAIK, final drive ratio is 4.056 now. Say I make it 4.6 (which I believe is the final drive ratio of i10 1.1), I believe the city driveability will improve, although highway driving in 4th/5th gear will suffer, but then I drive in the city most of the time.

My question to the Gurus is how easy/expensive is it to change only the final drive ratio in Getz. Is it likely to void the warranty? Is it better to get this done with the company authorized service center or outside?

thanks

I'd suggest you first try to improve the torque delivery of your Getz via a custom exhaust, porting & polishing etc. This will give you a noticeable increase in power delivery. If not yet satisfied, you can experiment further. Changing the final drive is a relatively simple mod. Good thing is, you can always revert back (easily) if you aren't happy with the outcome. We do this all the time with our Jeeps!

GTO,

First off, thanks for making this a new thread.
I did go through some threads about changing the exhaust, intake filters etc. and felt that those are more involved changes, and changing final drive is simpler, which you have confirmed. Hence I am looking forward to more specific inputs on that.

Get a complete FFE done with Throttle body enlargment and get a performance filter the torque will increase and to my knowledge the FE wont fall much,I am using the mods since Feb'09 in my getz 1.3 GLS,RPM to RPM shift is stable now very happy with the mods.
