Default Fiat 500 to have start-stop technology in Europe

The link says that the new 500s are to come out with engine start-stop technology which will result in 5% reduction in Fuel Consumption in European driving conditions. Imagine how much fuel can be saved in India considering the jam packed traffic in all our cities! If all the new cars were having this technology, the amount of fuel saved will be huge. Imagine all those engines idling for several seconds or minutes in traffic jams / stop lights.

Fiat 500 to have start stop technology

Is there any new cars which are launched here already sporting this technology? What about the Polo?

Good to know Fiat is following the green agenda. Good for the envirnment, good for company image. Also the picture on the page in the link shows promising changes like a smaller grill, an aerodynamic sloping rear end etc.

But start / stop only on stopping to a halt is not satisfactory. There should be some means of technical support for engine off coasting, which would give much more benefit. I am talking about an electric vacuum pump for brake assist, automatic shift to neutral and engine off instead of mere DFCO etc. Its high time companies incorporate these points in their mainstream offering

Isn't it similar to M&M's Hybrid technology, found in Scorpio, Bolero?

Engine start-stop technology already in a Mahindra? I wouldn't believe it.

Is there a hybrid M&M yet?

I thought this was widely prevalent across Europe? Isn't this old tech? I remember my 2007 MINI CooperS had this tech. and it was quite irritating tbh. And noting that a lot of European cars aren't particularly known for their electronics reliability, I'd rather just have my car quietly idle at the stop light. Besides, unless your revving the engine while stopped, the amount of fuel that you're burning is very small especially for the tiny engines in India.

In Scorpio, the AC will also cease working when the MicroHybrid turns off the engine...

This technology I guess is found in a lot more expensive cars.
Good to learn that Fiat is going Green in a ceratin way.

On first sight, I thought it was something else.

Nice initiative I say. Will the 500's in India get the same? It is good for the people and for the environment.

Unfortunately, Fiat have sold all the 500s that they had kept aside for our market. It was introduced in India only to help resurrect Fiat!

P.S. Even though Mahindra have introduced plenty of gizmos in the new Scorpio, they're all half-baked things! But credit should be given to them for introducing such gizmos that one would only dream of only seeing in a 20+lakh car!

The thing about the stereo resetting - I have this issue in my car too, when I switch off the engine and turn the key back on ACC2 position (for engine off coasting). Can someone please tell me what can be done to avoid Stereo resetting when moving from ACC2 (engine on) to ACC1 (killing engine) and back to ACC2? I have to wait some 3 to 5 seconds to reliably kill the engine (otherwise it is spinning, and takes up rightaway when I go back to ACC2)

Thanks in advance for any pointers.
