Default WagonR relay price + iCATS problem

Hi all,

I am a newbie at Team BHP. My car's battery was completely drained out tonight as the headlights were left on the entire day. So I had to call a local mechanic to get it fixed. To open the hood, I had to unlock the car using the key instead of central lock as the battery was dead. So after opening the hood, when a charged battery from his car was attached to wagonr, the iCATs security system went ON and the siren could just not be stopped / reset. The mechanic finally disconnected the security system.
He started the car once but it stopped. Then again when he started the car, it didn't. On inspecting he said that a relay was gone and went and purchased a new one for me.
He charged me Rs 350 for the relay and Rs 200 as over head.

I want to know the following -
1> was i scammed?
2> does a relay cost Rs 350 ?
3> Has the iCATS gone bad or something? Is it better to get it corrected from an authorized Maruti workshop or can I give it to the same person again as he has promised to fix it.

Thanks SirAlec. Can you please tell me where to find a price list for MGA online? I googled for "MGA price list" but nothing relevant came up.

I don't think the iCats system has a siren.

AFAIK the iCats is a RFID technology that will prevent any other key even a duplicate from starting the engine. Unless the tags match.

What you mention sounds like a car alarm system issue and not iCats.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Looks like he has a remote central locking system, and its relay blew.

I guess it got reset when the battery terminals were disconnected. Hence the alarm went off.

@dexkid - are you sure that your car had icats? What is the size of the plastic part on the keyboard? Approx 1.5 inches?

I have a feeling you were scammed, you should have called your MASS workshop for help than a local guy.

Siren is separate, which comes with your remote lock. This could have been disabled using the remote. Relay blowing off, unless some major short circuit goof up, it will not blow due to a run-down battery or jump start.

Anyways a good idea to get it checked by MASS and ensure the right relay is fixed now.

@BaCkSeAtDrIVeR

This is what has happened exactly. Went to a MASS today. Got it fixed by "resetting the system" (as told to me by the mechanic there).
Yeah I am sure that I have an iCATS installed.

But I didn't get the plastic part on the keyboard. I have remote control central locking and the car starts the alarm if I use the key to forcibly enter without pressing the unlock key first or if something heavy hits the car body when its locked (eg if my wiper falls on the windshield).

Can you please tell me how to identify if its installed or not?

I opened my hood just due this thread, and cannot find a relay for the security system.

There is a fuse though.

I didn't know a MASS workshop number here in Noida. If anyone has the contact nos please let me know / share it here in the forum.

With regards to the siren, it couldn't be disabled with the remote.

About the relay, I guess so. Got it checked from the MASS Rohan motors in G Noida today. Its okay. The mechanic @ MASS told me the relay costs Rs 700. Is it true ??

The relay that blew was the top right most one. I got to know that it is for the battery to get charged. Dunno if its true though.
