Default Baleno Shockers leaking oil after 50,000 km

Hi friends,

Today I went to CEAT showroom in Sec-16, Noida for wheel balancing and alignment done. While doing the balancing, the mechanic pointed out to me that both left and right shockers were leaking oil. Left one had almost no oil he said but there was still some in the right side one.

I came to know of a mechanic Babu at the Bridgestone showroom just across the road. He came and said that the shockers need to be replaced. He quoted me a price of Rs 3,500 (all incl.) for a new pair of "Munjal" shockers for the front. He also said that I can get second-hand shockers of "Munjal" brand installed for Rs 1800.

He said that probably Munjal shockers were the ones installed currently as OEM. (Could that be correct? )

Now I would like to know :

1. How to tell if the shockers need to be really replaced or not ? Is it advisable to get them repaired ?

2. Which is a good brand of shockers if replacement is necessary - Munjal, Gabriel or any other ?

3. Is the cost quoted reasonable enough ?

4. If I can get them repaired instead of replaced, is there any good reliable shop in Noida ?

Thanks.

Press the car down and leave it, if it starts bouncing up and down shockers are shot. Or better take it to any good mass and they will let you know. Price of struts seems to be lil high for a non MGP piece. Gabriel is a known and reliable name and ensure they give you the warranty also. Always replace and that too both the sides at one shot.

Just checked my spare set, Stock Struts have 'SUZUKI SHOWA' etched on them =)

I think they cost 1800 each new from Maruti. Munjal showa is made in India. Pick them up new, try not to repair ..

Hi,

take the car to a MASS and get the shocks replaced don"t fall into the trap of repaired shockers there are the worst , the car will have balance issues as the damping of the right and left shocks can never be matched by a roadside "shoker repair shop "

Spot on, that's 1800 + taxes for the SGP.

shobit your munjal or what ever struts cost is a rip off.

Hi just came back from Motorcraft Sec-63. They confirmed that both front shockers leaking oil and they need to be replaced. The price quoted was Rs 4,500 each for SGP . So total will be 9000 + 550 (labour charges) + tax.

I called Carnation and they quoted Rs 3,600 each MGP. Total will be 7200 + 650 (labour) + tax.

Anyone knows how much Gabriel ones will cost ? Is it ok if I get new Gabriel ones installed from aftermarket ?

Go for MGP ones, SGP's will be more expensive.

If you have a spares dealer you can implicitly trust then he can get you the dampers for at least 20% below the MRP. Get the bushes at the same time. Changing is a minor matter which any competent garage can handle.

I just went to Sec-16 and inquired from Hero motors and Singh motors (the two reputed shops there) but neither had the Baleno shockers. They even told me that I'm better off buying them from the company.

Then I went to Carnation and they told me that the shockers are for Rs 3,600 each (as told on phone) and that they are SGP and not MGP. They said that these parts were always SGP and there never have been MGP versions.

It looks like I have no choice but to get them from Carnation...

Default Success....found original used shockers for Baleno

i got used shockers for baleno of "Suzuki Showa" brand. for 1600 nucks. this includes fitting also. the shockers are of fine condition. my old shockers were leaking. but it took me 2 months to look for them. saved 8 grands...so the wait was worth it.

got the job done in Gokulpuri. there is a big market for used parts behind sarvodaya school. the guy's name is Mogli (yup....jungle jungle pata chala hai wala naam ). his number is 989942917.

Everything is available in this mkt. from audi bumpers to engines...one can find box packed Audi 3.0L engine for 3.5 L.
