Post Zen Ac Problem

Hi All,
I have a 1996 Zen Carb,in Chennai. I am having problem with my cars AC.
My mechanic has changed all kinds of hoses, and filled AC Gas. Now he says the Compressor is weak and needs to be changed.

I have already spent close to 5k on the system till now and there is no progress to it.

Please let me know how to find if the Compressor is in good condition.
Also will I get new 80cc compressor? How much for it?

@Moderators,
I did search for other threads , couldn't find one. If there is any other thread dealing with the same topic , ple post it there.

-Ajay

If you are from chennai , just go the new college road . Before new college and as soon as after the new college gate you will find 2 car A/C parts shops . You will be able to find a new compressor . They stock most brands that are sold in India .

I think the name of the road is peters road .

well i had the same problem with my 97 crab zen ! Zen is known for its weak AC. While i am in pune, one of the MASS (Sanjeevani Auto) recommended me to remove R12 gas and fill it with R134 and also have the AC servicing done. Quote was for 5K. Somehow i wasnt sure if he wsa right, as MASS guys from mumbai said i would have to change the entire system. After repeated confirmations, i finally choosed to go ahead with the refill and servicing.

Surprizingly the output turned out quite good. Apart from the engine load the cooling seems to be much better (in this heat of May). I would suggest get ur AC serviced and ask if the gas can be changed.

How much has the AC and car run? Kms i meant. If it has done more than 80-100k time for a complete clean up and overhaul. Sometimes a complete clean up of cooling coils that sit inside the dash helps.

Take it to an AC expert and do a complete clean up and re-install.

Zen has a very weak AC to begin with, suggest you try and find out how much it would cost to switch to R134 gas system. In the existing setup, changing the Compressor is the only option, which will increase the cooling a bit, but will never be able to be AC systems that come now a days with the R134 gas.

Hi Bro, don't fill R134 gas in your current system because R134 works in a much higher pressure and it will damage the compressor. If you are planning to fill R134 you have to choose the compressor accordingly.

I suggest you to check with a good A/C mechanic first.
