Default What is a Wave Key?

Honda literature/booklet for the Civic mentions a Wave Key as standard. The manual makes no mention of it.

What is it? Is it actually there in the car? Please educate me on this.

As per Honda website...

Engine Immobilizer
Complementing the keyless entry system is a standard engine-immobilizer system. A special electronically coded key (wave key) prevents the car from being started-even if a mechanical duplicate of the key is used. A transponder, built into the key, signals the immobilizer control unit that the key is genuine. If the car is hot-wired, or an unauthorized key is used, the engine will not start.

Per my understanding, this is a wave key

Now, the difference is the key grooves are not cut through the metal but only on the face of the key blade. This makes it tough to copy the key.

I cannot confirm that my assumption is right.

Does indeed look like a wave on the surface of the ocean

I guess both are correct, but immobilizer is common. So the latter may be the answer.
