This also helps reducing the evaporation rate of the water in the radiator. Make sure that you don't have a mixture in radiator which is too concentrated of coolant only. You may like to drain some off and fill with normal water.

I don't know how to react! Especially to your statement that the 'green thing'is not coolant, but actually anti-freeze.

Even the Tata owners manual specifies 50:50 premixed COOLANT . See page 74 and page 81.

Additionally: Premixed 50:50 ratio coolant / antifreeze is also green and also called coolant in India and antifreeze in the US. Could the names be something to do with the weather?

About topping up with only water: Wrong. Tata specifies that only premixed coolant be used to top up your Nano. I believe any modern car needs to be topped up with the correct ratio of coolant and water, usually 50:50, and never just water alone .

Oh, this very thread has answered another person's similar statement , please read:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...ml#post2706331 (TATA nano - List of ALL issues)

If you are still unconvinced about this, especially since you have declared yourself a 'petrol-head', then please don't make this a forum argument . This is my only post about this matter to you.

Thanks to teambhp for having a dedicated thread on this. And yes, I standby my words, technically the green thing is not actually coolant. I do not wish to argue and further participate in this discussion which you want to turn into an argument. But should you ever like to learn on this, humbly, I'd suggest you read http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...0-coolant.html (What will be the effect of 100% coolant?) For my specific words that probably bothered you the most, post no: 28 in the above thread (post by a moderator who worked with Golden Cruiser, if you know)may open a new world of insight for you.
Wish you happy driving the Nano!
Best regards,
A Petrol-head.

Faced a unique problem yesterday in the Nano A/c, do not know what is wrong and if the workshop will be able to fix it, or just waste my time.

With 3 people and 40 C afternoon temperature of Delhi, the A/c was on for 1-3 mins and then got auto cut for 2 mins. So effectively car became very hot..This kept on happening for about an hour. With 2 people and evening temperature the A/c worked fine.

Any pointers will help,

Hi all, have a problem with my Nano, today afternoon when I went to drive my car I found that the handbrake light on the center display does not go "off" I tried releasing the handbrake many times but no effect. There is no lag when I am driving but its just that the light is there all the time so what is the problem?

IMMEDIATELY check for brake oil level. That light, apart from handbrakes also indicates low brake oil level. TREAT THIS AS URGENT.

If that is fine, there should be switch at the pivot end of the handbrake lever. See if that is stuck. At times, carpets, dirt, dust can make that switch stuck at 'on' position and the handbrake light will be on even with un-engaged handbrake.

Hi Ankur,
Similar thing happens in my friend's Nano also. But it happens only when the blower is set at 3 in a hot day. Set the blower to 2 and the problem is solved. Please give a try.

@saket77 thank you for the reply, the problem was just as you mentioned, the brake oil level had gone low.Topped it up today.

Got to say the nano has the weirdest placements of essential components.I checked all the levels in the rear just two days back but completely missed the brake oil level.

Good that it has been rectified in time. Could have been a dangerous ordeal altogether.
BUT DO CHECK the level again and again to be on the safer side for the next few days. If all is well the level will hold good, upto several months, but small leakages anywhere in the circuit would again lead to low level.

Its better to be little extra-cautious in case of brakes.

Saket

New problem(?) : Yesterday after driving I saw smoke/white fumes/steam like the same way what you would get when you throw water on a very hot alloy wheel. The smoke was more prominent from the rear right wheel well. I also got the typical smell of "heat", Is this common or what should i check? The coolant is fine just checked a day back. I had just driven about 15kms or so.

Recently the silencer packing was replaced under warranty cause of sound so can this cause the problem? Please advise.

I see things connecting here...I mean the brake oil level issue. Assuming that its the wheel well that smoked, I think you have an issue with the brake cylinders in the drum. And your wheel is rubbing against the drum brake shoes. Could be a leakage of brake oil from the area too. Check the brake oil level again to see if it is still holding the correct level. If the smoke is from wheel well, get the brakes checked ASAP.

As specifically you haven't mentioned that where is the smoke is coming from, I doubt if that is from the exhaust; as you say the coolant level is correct. The coolant finding its way into the engine block due to damages can result in white exhaust from the engine.

My money is on the brakes.

Regards,
Saket

Unsure if this is related to design or my car has a problem specifically:

AC cooling cuts out/does not cool (unsure if compressor is on/off) for several minutes whilst driving and the cabin becomes somewhat hot. This has happened 4 times in the 500km or so I have driven it so far.

Steering vibrates only whilst braking that too when braking at higher speeds above 65/70. No other steering related vibration so unsure if this design or alignment related, if alignment related then steering should vibrate on acceleration as well? Someone said since my car is new perhaps brake pads/shoes need to bed?

Fuel tank reading in dash seems to show one bar less to full despite filling tank up! This started happening in recent full tank ups and not initially.

As per my rough calculation car is returning an average of 12.5 kmpl. Read somewhere that this could be the case until the 1st 1000kmpl. I have covered 500 km so far

Ref my points in AC, the compressor I feel does not stay on for longer than what the cabin need to keep cool, meaning it cools initially but tends to cut off or not keep cooling to keep cabin constantly cool. I noticed this on the demo nano as well, was driving at higher speeds and the blower would suddenly blow warmish air. I suspect either thermostat sort off cuts off when it should not or the engine overrides it. It's wired, to sum up the blower tends to blow uncool hair not warm but non cooled air

Solution:
i took two of my boys and we started it by pushing and rolling with clutch.

I think the self starter was stuck with the flywheel and hence was taking load. Once started, it freed itself.

No problem since.
I have been driving somebody's Nano for a week. After coming home from the office I parked the car outside the house and after a few hours when I got back into my car to go out somewhere, car refused to start despite all the electrical things like power windows and horn working fine.

After a single failed attempt of push start, we tried self and bingo...it started.

My question is: Could it be the same problem as you have mentioned in your post?

mine was cranking, but not starting, how about yours. ?

also there was a starter motor and wiring harness recall on nano. Did your friend attend that workshop.

Bought a new nano 2012 model this week for my dad.I observed the following complaints.
1.Car struggles to move with AC and 2ppl on board in 3rd and 4th gear.I don't want to press the accelerator hard as its still new and needs a proper run-in.Is it the same case with other nano's also?
2.In a hot day,Ac does not cool enough,it throws chill air and then all of a sudden no cooling for sometime. I am not sure if it has something to do with the compressor cut-off when the throttle is pressed fully.
3.Have done 220kms so far, already faced starting problem twice. last time,i had to crank 3 times and it got started 4th time.

From whatever reviews,i have seen, Nano's pick up and A/C is very good.
I find this a bit contradictory.
Please suggest if something is wrong with my car.
