Default Skoda Laura 1.8 TSI - Engine Oil Issue

I drive a Skoda Laura 1.8 TSI (Oct 2009). Happy with the car - great powerful engine and nice handling. [I wrote about my observations from the past 6-7 months here: https://aparanjape.wordpress.com/201...ng-experience/ ]

Yesterday, I was surprised to see the engine oil light come up. (I just have about 4700 km on the odometer, and recommended servicing is 1 year/15,000km).

I took the car to the dealer and was told that apparently, that this is not a very 'uncommon' issue with this new engine (1.8 TSI). They topped up the engine oil ... there was no other issue.

According to the service rep - the tolerance of the engine oil sensor is pretty tight - hence the occurence. Though, I think this is a little weird.. Skoda/VW should address such a basic issue.

Wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue.

It is a typical VW Audi triat. It will burn oil for the first 20000km and then stop. They should really make the owner aware thater than let them discover
