One thing I have to say, I salute the petrolhead spirit in you. Seeing an exotic on the road is one thing, but going up to the owner and managing a test drive is another. You seem to be doing that quite often (the V12 Merc S Class was also a similar case, right?)

Thanks a lot for this post. I was looking for a Lada Niva before I saw this post and this post helped me find this particular Lada, I've asked around considerably and as far as I know, this may be the only functioning Lada in all of India.

Through some funny coincidences, I found the owner of this Lada and have attached a picture. I'm not sure if he wants his picture online so blanked out his face.

So basically it has no original parts and has been fitted with a very old nissan diesel engine and is no longer a 4wd. He bought it in 1987 and over the years, it looks like, cheap mechanics have replaced and hacked the internals of this car just to keep it in running condition.

Wanted to post this pic, will update with further news.
