OT, but have you driven the 3 pot Polo? Are you able to post a comparison? Is it possible that the 3 pot is easier to maneuver in city? How's the power delivery on the 1.6, is it linear?

Great mileage figures you have shown, what were the speeds you clocked on the highway during this trip?

Cheers!

Yes, I've driven the 1.2 P & just like the 1.6 there is a very sluggish initial pick-up.

City maneuverability would be pretty similar to the 1.6 I'm guessing.

The 1.6 has got a linear delivery. It practically takes off once you've crossed 3000 RPM

I did 150 KM/hr for close to 10 KM's. Average speed was 90/100 throughout the trip.

PS: The pics of the mileage were taken while the cars was either decelerating or at a complete halt.

Thanks. Guess at 80 -90Km/h is the range where you can draw the maximum FE.

Cheers!

Hi Speed kills,

These are amazing FE figures for a bigger engine like the 1.6. Hats off to you for extracting these figures from a beast of an engine.

Happy Mile Crunching

Wow! 19.8 on a 1.6 litre petrol car, who said the germans don't make fuel efficient petrol engines. Superb mileage figures there. My question may sound stupid, nonetheless, is the 1.6 more fuel efficient than the 1.2 petrol ?

I seriously doubt it Shashank.

Light footed driving with the 1.2 would get you something similar if not more

Ok. The reason i asked is, i'd read somewhere that the 1.6 is less strained than the 1.2 due to the addl cylinder and extra 400cc. If the 1.6 returns such figures with the performance it has, one can't ask for more!

Btw, do you have any idea if the Polo's stock fog light bulbs (H8) can be interchanged with H11 or HB4? I'm not very happy with the stock bulbs output, unfortunately not many options with the H8 type bulbs.

The car is not discontinued. Dealers are still taking bookings with a longer lead time quoted.
Polo 1.6 upgrade would be coming soon with steering mounted audio controls, etc.

Cheers!

Hey volkman10 that was "News" for me. I never had a clue on that.

So would the "New 1.6" be the same Petrol version or can we expect the much awaited Diesel Avatar as well under this release ?

No much clue on the "New upgrade" of 1.6 petrol, but dealers are taking bookings for the same.

IMO,the 'Diesel avatar' of the 1.6 Petrol is not expected sooner than 2014.

Cheers!

Rumors on the upgrade.

Quote:
To make driving that much easier, Volkswagen could offer the option of an AT variant on the Polo. Volkswagen is ready with the technology, they have it installed on the Vento, married to a 1.6-liter petrol engine. On the Polo, Carwale expects the same configuration, making 105bhp and 153Nm with a fuel efficiency of not higher than 10kpl
Is Volkswagen India mulling over a Polo AT variant?
