Thanks for the info! I strongly feel that mahindra should ramp up production of the car to atleast 4000 per month.
I didnt understand the DRL's part what did you mean by 'They only come on when parking is switched on'?

They're not DRLs, they're parking lights. When you switch on the parking light, these LEDs will be ON.

Oh thats bad! Then how come during the launch when the car came on the stage the DRLS were on when it was been driven?

Nope, its a limitation in Altis as well, we checked it out and as per the SA there seems to be some problem with the RTO for this as this is not allowed in all regions in India and no manufacturer wants to take any chance with the RTO guidelines which are vague to start with.

One more difference between W6 and W8 is the leather wrapped steering wheel. It feels nice to hold.
Hi,

The way MapmyIndia works is that map updates are free in the 1st year. After that you can still continue using the system, but to get map updates you will have to pay a cost and it is an option (most people would not update the maps anyway!).
The system in the XUV is also the same and the Maps can be updated by connecting the XUV system with a laptop connected to the internet.

One query which people have asked regarding DRLs and parking lights: The key difference between DRLs (Daytime running lights and parking lights is that DRLs will be on in the daytime and will switch OFF when you turn on the main lights. Whereas in the case of parking lights, they can be turned on anytime and they will remain ON along even with the main lights. In the XUV500, the LED lights will remain on at night along with the main headlights as they function as parking lights and not DRLs (better IMO).

Regards,
Behemoth

Mostly everything positive about this vehicle, that's great from the consumer point of view - a affordable SUV which drives like a car on diesel!
What more could a person ask for with our "fantastic" road conditions.

Does anyone have any news on when the automatic is going to be launched?
I checked with the showroom at Chowpatty in Bombay, they confirmed an automatic but had no clue about the launch date.
With traffic conditions this vehicle with an automatic transmission and price point would sell like hot cakes in my opinion.

Thanks Behemoth and Tushargohil. That clarifies a lot. I was under the impression that there is an yearly subscription fee.

I was just about to put a post down wondering why Mahindra would make something dysfunctional and then i read your post -had no clue or ever even heard that such a restriction applied and it was linked to rules set forth by the RTO - thanks for that information!

Please go and see the car with an open mind Mahindra has sure worked hard on this car and it reflects. A few down sides here and there but yet a very good product for sure. The car is bang for the buck at the moment. Rest the ownership review and long term review will define its fate.
Great first impressions review. However, bookings closed for now, confirmed by a Tweet from Mr. Anand Mahindra:

anandmahindra @m_upreti True that we've stopped taking bookings for now. We're overwhelmed by the response&will focus on ramping up delivery

Solution to decrease waiting period

"We are offering those customers the option of changing their booking to an alternate colour or to the W8 2WD model which will help reduce their waiting period. We are also trying our level best to ramp up production at the earliest to ensure deliveries to customers. We will not be opening any more cities for now which will also help in meeting delivery dates. Many thanks for your patience and understanding."

With over 8,000 bookings in only a week or so, a heart-felt “Thank You” to all of you is in order. Rest assured, every effort is being made to confirm a delivery date to all customers. Any inconvenience caused is truly regretted but we have received an unanticipated, huge number of bookings especially for the Pearl White colour and AWD model in W8

Mine is White too..

Thought to share with you.....

I test drove the vehicle from Koramangala to Indiranagar on IRR and back. Quick observations seconding the original observations in the 1st post:
Very smooth engine and NVH quite good.
Felt at ease immediately - drives like a sedan and side mirror visibility good (Centre was a bit poor IMO)
I drove the W6 and couldn't really make out that it was a 4x2
Car corners well and brakes felt well modulated
I sat behind for some time and the seat incline feature is great with 3 settings
Rear seat comfort commendable (no heavy roll felt on curves)

I am just waiting for detailed reviews and some owner feedback before I book mine!
Well done M&M!

Clearly a PS job.
But i like the first one.
If price better (9-10 lacs) then it would be a great lifestyle car.

My wish too.
I drive a Hyundai Tucson and the clutch plain sucks. So I doubt the longavity of any manual transmission diesel SUV. A good AT box is the need of the hour.
